Senior Medical Office Coordinator -- Orthopaedic Surgery

The Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, at the University of Virginia School of Medicine, seeks a Senior Medical Office Coordinator to join its administrative team.

The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting the clinical practice of multiple physicians and physician assistants. Typical work may include managing multiple calendars, scheduling meetings, creating correspondence from rough draft to final copy, assisting with editing faculty CVs and manuscripts, sending letters to our referring MDs and PCPs, completing medical forms for employers, worker's compensation & others, working with clinic staff to ensure clinics are blocked, monitoring physician clinic schedule to ensure it is optimized, responding to and resolving patient inquiries, covering co-workers during absences as needed, answering phones, faxing, filing and other duties as assigned.

A high school diploma with at least five years of administrative or clinical support in a medical office is required. A Bachelor's degree may substitute for two years of required experience.

Knowledge of Epic is preferred. Applicants must be detail-oriented with good organizational skills, able to manage multiple tasks in a busy environment, effectively communicate and work with physicians, physician assistants, staff and patients, and work with and maintain confidentiality of patient information.

This is a restricted position contingent upon the continued availability of funding.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to work with and maintain confidentiality of patient information.Considerable knowledge of medical terminology.

Required Computer Applications: Microsoft Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Word.

Preferred Computer Applications: Familiarity with Epic.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Education: A high school diploma is required. A Bachelor's Degree is preferred.

Experience:

This position provides administrative support to faculty physicians in a fast-paced medical practice. Incumbent facilitates patient scheduling, creates and maintains patient records, facilitates patient referrals, arranges medical testing as directed by physician, as well as obtains test results from medical laboratories, pathology, and radiology.
