Job Summary

Performs simple to complex clinical laboratory tests in one or more sections of the laboratory. Work requires an advanced professional level of knowledge and increasing responsibility in order to perform, interpret and record patient test results, especially those which are abnormal or atypical. Individuals advance job knowledge and skills by selecting a training track (technical, management, education or computers/databases) that drives job assignments.

Increased responsibilities for test or instrument troubleshooting; test result correlation; occurrence report investigation; development and implementation of new tests and equipment; teaching and training of MLS 1 and 2 and students; audits to insure laboratory compliance with regulatory agencies; assist with policies, procedures and forms.

  • Independently performs patient testing in 2 of more sections of the laboratory (Chemistry, Hematology, Microbiology, Blood Bank) according to laboratory procedures and established turnaround times with advanced professional knowledge. Is considered an onsite resource for appropriate test systems.

    Assists with training students, MLS 1 and 2; provides feedback as appropriate. Assists technical specialist with competency checklists. May elect to support the laboratory in other teaching options: point of care, residents, lab continuing education, etc.

    In addition to performing required quality control as established by the laboratory's Quality Control Program with resolution and escalation, works under the direction of the Technical Specialist to isolate problems and define corrective actions with the required documentation. May elect to support the technical specialist with quality control review with trend analysis and associated documentation. Performs instrument equipment maintenance and troubleshooting; escalates equipment issues appropriately; Works to isolate the problem, define corrective action and report findings to the TS.

    Performs linearity, calibration, verification procedures as defined by test / analyzer. Assists TS with analysis and documentation completion. Assists the technical specialist with review and analysis of PT results.

    Follows all laboratory safety procedures to minimize the risk to self and others; reports gaps and/or recommendations. Assists the technical specialist with document review, regulatory compliance, work redesign, process improvement or other projects as assigned. Job Details Location: Niles, MI Department: Southwest Medical Clinic Niles - Senior Manager Medical Practices Status: Full time Shift: Day (United States of America) Hours: Variable Monday - Saturday 8a-7p Job Summary Under general supervision, accurately schedules, preregisters/registers, checks in and checks out patients for a Lakeland HealthCare physician practice. Responsible for gathering all necessary demographic and insurance information, verifies, confirms insurance benefits and may assist with precertification requirements needed to allow Lakeland HealthCare to provide prompt, courteous service and to be reimbursed appropriately for patient visits and services. * Schedule appointments for new and established patients over the telephone, through Lakeland MyChart or if the patient presents to the office. Scheduling will be according to the practice's scheduling requirements and follow the electronic health record (EHR) workflow. Some offices may schedule for MRI, CT Scans, and obtain authorizations. • Register all patients promptly and accurately. Will obtain all pertinent demographic and insurance information as needed, including scanning in insurance cards and other patient identification. Obtain signatures and verifies all forms are appropriately completed at the time of the visit. • Verify insurance coverage, benefits and pre-certification requirements on Commercial, Medicare, Medicaid and Blue Cross insurances for registered/scheduled patients as appropriate. • Collect and record co-pays and balances due on accounts at time of visit. Prepare appropriate receipts at the time of visit. Maintain control of the cash drawer and balances according to policy. Inform patient/guarantor of payer requirements based on medical necessity and completes appropriate ABN forms. • Scan and document medical reports and other correspondence as appropriate.
