Aerojet Rocketdyne Coleman Aerospace is looking for a Senior Mechanical Engineer for its Orlando, FL location.

The Senior Mehcanical Engineer will be responsible for mechanical design aspects of missile systems and associated ground support equipment. Duties span conceptual design through detailed design technical drawings. Production support activities are also required including engineering change management and non-conformance resolution. The selected candidate will use in depth knowledge of mechanical design and related knowledge of other disciplines to ensure that design completions meet technical requirements.

This current opening may be filled at the level posted or at one level higher.

Essential Job Functions (Including % of Time for Each)
25% - Create mechanical detail design drawings of vehicle structures, component installations, ancillary brackets and adapters in accordance with ASME Y14.5 and published command media.
20% - Create concepts that comply with requirements for packaging of missile components, structural airframe, access requirements and concept of operations.
10% - Ensure part interchangeability through proper application of tolerance stack-up methods.
10% - Peer review design drawings and documents for sound application of mechanical engineering principles and proper application of command media guidelines.
5% - Assess non-conformances for root cause/corrective action, provide disposition instructions and prepare Material Review Board materials as required.
5% - Prepare engineering change requests as required to support production.
5% - Comply with command media requirements regarding business practices and procedures.
5% - Maintain subject matter expertise in selected areas relevant to mechanical design of aerospace systems.
5% - Represent the mechanical design organization as a prime contact on the technical completion of the work to internal management teams and to the customer.
5% - Coordinate areas of design processing inputs from design team members to ensure design completion within budget and schedule constraints.
5% - Prepare written presentation materials and technical reports summarizing the engineering design elements.


Requires a BS in Mechanical Engineering (or related discipline) and a minimum of 5 years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

US Citizenship required. Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Security Clearance at the appropriate level (U.S. Citizenship required). Must also be able to satisfy federal government requirements for access to government information, and having dual citizenship may preclude you from being able to meet this requirement. Applicants selected will be subject to a security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information, as well as obtain and maintain a security clearance.

Additional Requirements and

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Proficiency with PTC's Creo 2.0, especially with detail part design, and drawing documentation.

  • Ability to develop structural designs including parts of various machining techniques, component placements, and design concepts that conform to requirements documents.

  • Working knowledge of basic material selection, sheet metal design practices, basic machining practices and aerospace hardware selection.

  • Working knowledge of ASME Y14.5-1994 and general drawing standards.

  • Experience with Part List preparation.

  • Experience with engineering change document preparation and impact assessments.

  • Detail-oriented and able to perform Peer Reviews of fellow engineers' designs and drawings.

  • Ability to manage own time.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Basic understanding of mechanical analysis concepts desired.

  • Experience in non-conforming material review of root cause/corrective action and disposition instructions.

  • Experience with hands-on engineering support of manufacturing desired.

  • Experience with White Belt training, lean manufacturing, and/or 6-sigma practices desired.

  • This position may require occasional extra work hours as required to meet critical schedule milestones.

This person will apply technical and functional expertise to perform on-site risk assessments and security engineering/advisory for DoD networks, information systems, and applications, using standards such as DoD Directive 8510.01, DoD Instruction 8500.01, and NIST Publications. The ISSE (Engineer) will work as a member of a Team providing technical support to protect the DoD's networks and information systems. Principal Duties and Responsibilities (*Essential functions) * Serve as an Assessment and Authorization (A&A) and Security Engineering (SE) Subject Matter Expert (SME) with proficiency in DoDI 8510.01, Risk Management Framework (RMF) for DoD IT, and affiliated NIST security controls. * Function as an Information Systems Security Engineer (ISSE) advising DoD clients on security protocols and compliance measures for a variety of systems. * Assist with RMF assessments, including coordination, preparation, execution, and concluding documentation. * Utilize DoD Information Assurance (IA) scanning tools and techniques (i.e., ACAS, SCAP, STIG Checker, etc.) and work with system owners/developers to "build in" security to their systems and applications. * Demonstrate knowledge of network devices and interconnections (i.e., routers, switches, IDS/IPS, firewalls, DNS) and how they can be best engineered and configured to minimize system risks and vulnerabilities. * Demonstrate technical experience in identifying and mitigating any risks and vulnerabilities in complex defense systems and enclaves.Expertly communicate complex technical and programmatic information to a wide audience, often in the form of verbal and visual updates, technical reports, and/or briefings. Documentation, presentation, and public speaking skills are required. * Apply expert understanding of cybersecurity concepts, practices, and tools to administer classified and unclassified DoD networks and information systems. * Maintain on-going awareness of emerging cybersecurity threats and trends. * Develop and maintain the necessary technical documentation and standard operating procedures (SOPs). * Travel: Up to fifteen percent (15%) but estimated to average ten percent (10%) to U.S. military locations around the country and world.
