What You Will Be Doing


In the Senior Mechanical Engineer role, you will have the opportunity to serve as Project Manager, Client Manager, and Senior Project Engineer. In addition you will have the unique opportunity to help lead and continue to grow our offices mechanical engineering team. Advancement opportunities exist beyond the position of Senior Mechanical Engineer as our upper leadership team continues to transition into new roles and additional branch offices are formed.

Provide leadership to the offices Mechanical Engineering Department
Help grow the offices Mechanical Engineering Department
Lead teams on selected projects, serving as the clients main point of contact for the engineering team
Provide oversight of mechanical engineering projects
Provide specification and design of HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection systems for architectural projects within defined budgets
Maintain and foster relationships with clients

Experience with a focus on: Client Satisfaction, Quality, Financial Accountability, Leading and managing a technical staff, Managing architectural projects
10+ years of experience in the design of buildings and related projects
Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering
Professional Registration
Experience in the design of HVAC, hydronic piping systems, central plants, building automation, medical gas, plumbing, and fire protection systems for various types of projects including commercial, industrial, institutional, healthcare and residential construction

Energy Modeling experience
LEED AP accreditation
Commissioning Certification
Experience with AutoCAD and Revit

Your Opportunity Stantec's Water sector has an immediate opportunity in our Nashville location for a Mechanical Engineer with experience in power plant processes and coal ash removal. Your Key Responsibilities * Fluid system design, including Process Flow/Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams and associated calculation development * Development of equipment sizing and specifications. * Development of plant layout, piping and equipment arrangements. * Development of Conceptual and Detailed Designs, Feasibility Studies and Front-End Engineering Studies. * Coordination and review of project vendor drawings. * Work independently in the field to determine as-built conditions and design new project work in a plant retrofit environment * Perform work which involves conventional types of plans, investigations, surveys, structures, or equipment with some complex features for which there may or may not be precedents. * Collaborates on unusual technical or complex problems and receives supervisory approval on proposed plans for projects. * Performs assignments designed to develop project work, requiring application of standard techniques, procedures, and criteria in carrying out a sequence of related engineering tasks. * Leads projects independently or with advice from discipline manager. * Spending up to 10% of your time in power plants or industrial facilities working in the field. Your Capabilities and Credentials * Possess a working knowledge of Industry standards and Mechanical Engineering design principles * Experience with power plant systems including simple cycle, combined cycle, coal and biomass * Ability to develop P&ID drawings * Ability to develop Equipment Specifications * Ability to provide input and perform, review of general arrangements, isometrics and orthographic drawings * Ability to prepare and update various mechanical schedules * Ability to prepare heat and water balances * Ability to work closely with designers to develop construction documents * Ability to work within an interdisciplinary project team * Ability to utilize CAD software, AutoCad or similar software is a plus. Education and Experience Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering. Registered PE or ability to obtain. Minimum of 10 years of experience in detailed fossil-fuel-power plant or industrial engineering and design. Co-op/Internship experience preferred. Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.
