The Otis Service Center's (OSC) Service Engineering department is seeking a candidate to fill a Senior Mechanical Engineer position.
This role is responsible for: Performance of design integration, and product development of mechanical components for use in elevators as well as service support of legacy products. The individual's primary focus will be passenger interface components, commonly referred to as fixtures, in addition to product design and testing.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Support and/or lead technical efforts within product development/integration teams.
Responsibilities could involve design, analysis, sourcing, fabrication, testing, inspection or supporting field issues.
Ensure that Otis products and processes are in line with the EH&S mandates, ANSI A17.1 code requirements and principles of robust design.
Responsible for identifying project technical goals and requirements.
Support development and refinement of internal standards, standard work and procedures as well as parts replacement guidance documentation.
Develop product solutions and strategies for obsolete components.
Support local offices with product applications, potentially requiring travel to installation sites.
Help develop junior engineers by sharing expertise and knowledge.
6+ years' experience in design and development of electro-mechanical products.
B.S. in mechanical engineering, M.S. preferred.
Proficiency in 3D CAD required, Creo preferred.
Knowledge and practice of good fundamental mechanical design practices, selection of appropriate materials with consideration for part interactions and forces, guide designers with appropriate tolerancing.
Ability to identify configurations of mechanical systems to meet all customer and market requirements at lowest life cycle cost. Key skills include ability to perform trade off studies, component options & performance, understanding of mechanical interfaces & constraints, and requirements compliance.
Knowledge and practice of Dfx principles, understanding of manufacturing process capability, and ability to discuss requirements and direct a supplier for the final design decisions.
Experience and knowledge about intricacies and limitations of various manufacturing processes such as: basic machining, Injection molding, Extrusion, Sheetmetal working or welding, additive manufacturing technologies.
Ability to manage cross functional teams, driving the product development process (PM). Key skills include detailed schedule and resource planning, scope /requirements management, and project tracking & reporting.
Experienced working with international teams. Must have the ability to build partnerships, influence support and cooperation.
Excellent team player; comfortable working in a dynamic, interdisciplinary team comprising mechanical, electrical and software engineers, as well as designers, product managers and manufacturing & operations personnel.
Equally comfortable and productive as an individual contributor to the organization.
Excellent verbal & written communication skills
