Team charter:

The Advanced Technologies and Autonomy team is responsible for delivering highly available, high quality systems to enable NIO's Autonomous driving vehicles. Our mission is to provide the next generation of hardware, software and algorithmic solutions. This includes but not limited to sensing, compute, storage as well as vehicle controls and safety system compute.

What the team works on:

  • Autonomy hardware and software architecture

  • Design, development, integration, and test of autonomous compute and sensing hardware

  • Mass storage and Event Data Recorders

  • Vehicle and Safety Controller HW and related functions

  • Environment and Sensor modeling and simulation

  • Autonomy Al and Controls

  • Autonomy R&D Tools

  • Autonomy compute and sensing HW and SW redundancy

  • Sensing, GPS and IMU hardware, software, and integration

  • Autonomy compute communication (sensing, compute, and controller inter-ECU communication)

Overview:

The hardware group is responsible for the concept, design, and refinement of all hardware associated with autonomous driving. The team will develop the system and follow through during launch. You will collaborate in a team with other engineers and designers to develop an autonomous driven car that delights the consumer.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Lead the development of unique, innovative and advanced engineering concepts and components designs - continuing these through release and launch support.Work with suppliers to develop component/sub-system to meet weight, cost, durability, and performance targets.Hands-on integration and collaboration with disciplines such as software, automation, electrical, mechanical, signal integrity, and FPGA design.Collaborate with other engineering groups, suppliers, and leadership team to meet engineering deliverables within tight time constraints.Communicate complex optical hardware requirements to non-experts both internally and to industry-facing stakeholders.Collaborate with other engineering groups, suppliers, and leadership team to meet engineering deliverables within tight time constraints.Ensure compliance of the system and component designs with all vehicle/component requirements, quality objectives, program milestones, performance, cost, weight & safety.Flexibility and adaptability in a fast-paced and dynamic work environment.Some travel domestically and/or internationally.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor or Masters in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent8+ years of experience in product design with a strong focus on high power computes.Understanding of electromechanical systems.Strong thermodynamics and heat transfer fundamentals.Strong engineering fundamentals (beam bending, free body diagrams, GD&T, etc...).Prototype development, testing and systems engineering fundamentals

Mechanical / physical design in ruggedized computing systems.Experience with DFMEA, DVP&R and specification development.Self-motivated and organized, can quickly solve difficult design problems and has a passion for innovation.High energy, detail-oriented personality with a passion for learning.Excellent prioritization, cross-functional teamwork, and written and verbal communication.Experience in production part design utilizing a variety of engineering materials and methods:

  • Plastic injection/blow molding.

  • HPDC of Aluminum and Magnesium.

  • Familiarity with composite materials.

  • Additive manufacturing.

  • MIM.

  • Stamping including fine blanking.

Advanced design and 3D modeling skills (CATIA V5/6 preferred).Fundamental understanding of PCB layout design.Willingness to travel internationally.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Automotive experience including vehicle packaging and familiarity with regulations.Experience with simulation and analysis methods (FEA, CFD and DVA).
