Job Overview:

This position is for a Senior Mechanical Engineer in the mechanical group associated with the NASA Mobile Launch 2 project. The successful candidate must have strong organizational and teamwork skills, proven problem-solving abilities, can-do attitude, and the desire to innovate designs.

In this position the engineer will support design development of Mechanical systems and equipment, specifically related to Pneumatics and Facility systems with tasks including preparing studies, drawings, calculations, specifications, data sheets, and evaluations, in accordance with applicable procedures, codes, standards, and contract requirements. Work with the client, partnering contractors, vendors, and other technical engineering disciplines in a team environment.

This is a short term assignment with an anticipated completion date of 12/31/2024.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate within the engineering group and other disciplines and groups independently in completing 100% design and supporting Procurements to deliver equipment for Construction.

  • Perform design in accordance with system requirements, including evaluation of upstream and downstream interface conditions (flow, pressure, temperature) identified in Interface Control Documents (ICD).

  • Preparation of calculations and close out of open assumptions to complete design.

  • Preparation of mechanical schematic diagrams (P&ID or SMS) in accordance with project procedures and NASA requirements.

  • Preparation of Design Analysis Reports (DAR) in accordance with project procedures and NASA requirements.

  • Preparation of Material Requisitions (MR) for purchase of mechanical equipment and/or umbilicals arms.

  • Monitor schedule adherance and assure a high degree of quality in work product.

  • Facilitate coordination with other technical disciplines in planning and executing work as an integrated team.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Grade 25: BS degree in Engineering (Mechanical or related), from an accredited university, with at least 6 years of relevant experience or in lieu of degree 12 years related experience.

  • Grade 26: BS degree in Engineering (Mechanical or related), from an accredited university, with at least 9 years of relevant experience or in lieu of degree 15 years related experience.

  • Relevant experience includes, but is not limited to, P&IDs, calculations, and specifications for Mechanical systems and equipment on power plants, refineries or chemical process facilities.

  • Must be able to complete a pre-employment drug screen and background check.

  • Must have the legal right to work in the U.S. without sponsorship.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Excellent communication skills (both verbal and written).

  • Ability to utilize office automation tools effectively.

  • Knowledge of industry and regulatory guides, codes, and standards, as well as Bechtel Corporate guides and standards.

  • Broad knowledge of the application of Mechanical engineering design principles.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior work experience in execution center environment and demonstrated flexibility in work assignments.

  • MS degree in Mechanical or related Engineering, from an accredited university.

  • Registered Professional Engineer in USA (Mechanical or related Engineering).

  • Experience working with procedures meeting quality assurance programs such as ASME-NQA-1, MIL-Q-9858A, or ISO-9000.

  • Previous experience in either pneumatics or cryogenic design.
