ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Technical leadership experience managing direct report for the design and development of complex opto-mechanical systems
Hands on leadership of mechanical design and analysis of the Mechanical Design team including peer reviews of work product and coaching / mentorship of direct reports
Developing military products for DoD and/or Defense Contractors including key review milestones (Concept Review, PDR, CDR, etc.)
Requirements driven design and trade study development
Ensures successful project completion within quality, budget and schedule requirements.
Design verification of mechanical design through analysis and FEA (thermal, modal, tolerance stack-ups, etc.)
Responsible for the configuration management of mechanical designs and drawings
Hands on product realization from concept phase, prototype, DVT, qualification, pilot run, up to mass production in a dynamic and agile working environment.
Working closely with internal and external customers to ensure design meets their requirements
Collaboration with manufacturing / operations ensuring designs that are producible and meet cost targets.
Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in a related engineering or science field
Equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
Minimum Experience: 5 years minimum experience in mechanical design and development with a track record for product realization in the field of Mechanical and/or Opto-Mech engineering.
B.S. (Master's Degree Preferred) in Mechanical, Opto-Mechanical, Materials Science or Physics
Experience with CAD design tools such as SolidWorks, preferably working on opto-mechanical systems and system design
Proficient with FEA analysis with COMSOL, ANSYS or other packages. Past experience with thermal, structural, thermal-electrical analysis.
Demonstrated experience negotiating design trade-offs among various design parameters and required operating conditions.
Organized, methodical and experienced in Resource & Project Priority management
Demonstrated ability to work proactively and constructively with multidisciplinary teams.
Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
Prior experience in the mechanical design and fabrication of Fiber Optic Gyros and IMUs (Inertial Measurement Units)
Design of precision Sensors or Sensor sub-systems
Experience in fiber optic packaging and routing in dynamic environments
Prior experience managing direct reports
Experience working in DoD / Military product environment
Experience with high volume / low cost product design
