Senior Mechanical Engineer

About This Role:

The Senior Mechanical Engineer is responsible for mechanical design and development of sustaining landscape irrigation products. Applies knowledge of engineering principles and uses computer aided design and analysis tools. Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.

Essential Job Functions/Tasks:

• Plans, conducts, and directs Engineering, Development, and Research projects of major significance, requiring the expert application of engineering principles and associated industry knowledge. Operates with wide latitude and autonomy in actions and decisions. Originates and applies new and unique engineering methods.

• Performs analysis, modeling, prototype, and design of injection molded plastic or die-cast components and enclosures. Uses rapid prototyping methods as appropriate. Designs for manufacturability incorporating tolerance analysis. Manages/conducts part design reviews. Trains others in the proper use of high-end CAD and analysis equipment as a fully integrated development tool.

• Manages development of solutions to product problems that arise and implementation of the solution. Promotes collaboration on design ideas to resolve product issues. Designs tests or test fixtures required to duplicate field failures or to qualify product design changes. Communicates ideas and opinions to team members and communicates design changes to affected departments.

• Ensures that accurate product and project documentation is created and maintained. Coordinates collection of test and measurement data. Reviews test and inspection methods, collected data, and analysis of data.

• Manages product change requests, oversees generation of solutions, and reviews implementation through Engineering Change Orders (ECOs). Ensures that changes are accurate, complete and do not adversely affect product performance and manufacturability through Design Verification. Ensures conformance with engineering design and performance specifications.

• Coordinates work with various departments to achieve common goals. Maintains on‐going discussions with various departments on design feasibility.

• Researches and analyzes product proposals, specifications, and other data to evaluate the feasibility, cost, and manufacturing requirements of the design. Write/review engineering performance requirements and specifications for product development or engineering projects.

• May serve as lead engineer or project manager of a product development or redesign team, developing a plan that includes project schedule, specifications, and budget. Responsible for seeing this plan through to completion. Provides and maintains project documentation as required by the Hunter New Product Development process.

• Keeps abreast of current technology and competitive developments. Represents the organization in outside discussions and technical forums. Travels to test sites, customers, suppliers, and trade shows as required.

• May support coaching other engineers, designers, or technicians. Manages engineering internships.

Education/Training Required and Preferred:

• Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline.

Experience Required and Preferred:

• Minimum seven years of progressive experience in design engineering and project management.

• Experience designing plastic injection molded parts is strongly preferred.

What You Bring:

• Demonstrated competence in the field of mechanical engineering and extensive knowledge of manufacturing techniques, injection molding, and the irrigation industry (preferred).

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English. Excellent interpersonal skills to interact with members across the organization.

• Advanced knowledge and expertise with solid modeling software: ProEngineer and/or SolidWorks, and engineering analysis software: FEA, CFD, and mold flow.

• Advanced mechanical aptitude and problem-solving ability.

• Ability to travel to test sites, customer locations, suppliers, and trade shows. Must have or be able to obtain a valid passport.

• Excellent attention to detail, organizational and time management skills.

• Excellent leadership skills to lead new product development team and support engineers. Ability to lead and manage direct reports.

The salary for this opportunity ranges from $90,815 to $125,550

The Company complies with all federal/local/state regulations in regard to pay. The above represents the expected salary range for this job requisition. Compensation offered to the successful candidate will be determined by qualifications, prior experience, other job-related factors, and geographic location.
