What You Will Be Doing
Lead and manage the entire product design life cycle - including requirements gathering, concept generation, detailed design with analysis, verification testing, cross-functional reviews, manufacturing release, training and development, and process improvements.
Develops mechanical portion for optical components and electro-mechanical products used in the optical networking industry, including AWG, TF, etc. Additional duties might include the design of modules, line cards, chassis, assemblies, sheet metal, bezels, faceplates, fiber routing, etc. May also develop test fixtures or tooling for NPI development or production.
Designs, simulates, analyzes, and verifies mechanical performance to meet thermal, power dissipation, vibration, shock, environmental, mechanical stress, reliability requirements, and specifications for optical components and electro-mechanical products used in the optical network industry, including AWG, TF, modules, line cards, etc
Work with other function design engineers to optimize design
Transfer knowledge to engineers in offshore site for production and local engineering support
Ensures design meets other requirements, such as design for manufacturing, yield, test, cost, tolerance, etc.
Generates, reviews, or manages the generation of part and assembly drawings, reports, and BOMs
Utilize mechanical tools, such as Solidworks, Solidworks PDM professional, Ansys Mechanical, Icepak, etc.
What You Need for this Position
Bachelor's degree in Engineering, preferably Mechanical Engineering
5+ years experience in opto-mechanical design, high speed optical components, active and passive
Experience with opto-mechanical system design, precision alignment and machine design principles, methods of mounting optical and electro-optical components (laser, lens, photo diodes), optical alignment and assembly fixture design
Strong Material properties and applications background
Machining background: CNC Mill, Lathe, EDM, Grinding and laser
Understanding of Injection Molding, MIM and Casting
Sheet Metal, Stamping Die and tool forming procedures
Plating and Material Finish requirements
Masters Degree or PhD in Mechanical Engineering
Experience with optical modeling tools such as Zemax a plus
Fluency in Mandarin (written and oral) would be a plus
