Our Clean Energy Team seeks a Mechanical Engineer III to support design and manufacturing of microinverters and related power management devices. The ideal candidate will have product development experience including prototype design and testing, part specification/design for high volume manufacturing processes, product assembly with contract manufacturers, supplier quality evaluation, and product lifecycle management.

Major Responsibilities

  • Provide engineering capacity for fast-growing product line of microinverters and related power management devices.

  • Integrate effectively with cross-functional teams (electrical design, manufacturing, supplier quality, sourcing).

  • Provide mentorship and guidance to junior engineers.

  • Provide flexible, responsive engineering support for a dynamic global supply chain.

  • Create and manage product designs, documentation, and lifecycle.

  • Respond to supplier engineering/manufacturing questions and change requests.

  • Build, test, and evaluate prototypes and first articles.

  • Provide engineering capacity for fast-growing product line of solar energy management & storage solutions.

  • Provide mentorship and guidance to junior engineers.

  • Provide flexible, responsive engineering support for a dynamic global supply chain.

  • Create and manage product designs, documentation, and lifecycle.

  • Respond to supplier engineering/manufacturing questions and change requests.

  • Build, test, and evaluate prototypes and first articles.

Minimum Job Requirements

  • B.S. in Mechanical Engineering or other related Engineering degree

  • Minimum 5 years of related work experience

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities

  • This role requires a well-rounded engineer that can work closely with a small local team and integrate with a broad national organization on high-volume power electronics products. The successful candidate must work well with others in the engineering, manufacturing, and sales organizations. Must be able to manage shifting priorities in a dynamic and collaborative work environment.

  • Ability to individually contribute to and lead the mechanical design in an interdisciplinary product development effort - project scope, schedules, budget, design, coordination, testing and launch.

  • Deep familiarity and experience with design for volume manufacturing - practices and specific processes (e.g., castings, injection molding, extrusion)

  • Experience with domestic and global sourcing of electromechanical products for quality, scale, and cost reduction

  • Experience managing engineering changes in a production environment.

  • Experience evaluating corrective and preventative actions to address quality issues.

  • Experience working directly with part/product suppliers on schedule, design for manufacturing, and quality.

  • Proven self-starter: takes initiative and adapts to changes to bring projects to completion.

  • Positive attitude, high energy individual identifies obstacles and tackles them to meet goals.

  • Engineer at heart uses intuition for engineering principles to identify issues and solutions.

  • Process orientation: follows a clear method, trains others, and continuously improves it.

Location:

Based in Pacific Palisades, CA.

Travel up to 10 % as needed for partner support.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

On occasion, the incumbent may be required to stoop, bend, or reach above the shoulders. The employee must occasionally lift up to 25 pounds. Specific conditions of this job are typical of frequent and continuous computer-based work requiring periods of sitting, close vision, and the ability to adjust focus. Occasional travel.

Generac is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices. The salary range for this role based in Pacific Palisades, CA is $120,000 - $160,000. This compensation will ultimately be in line with the location in which the position is filled. Final compensation for this role will be determined by various factors such as a candidate's relevant work experience, skills, certifications and geographic location. This role is eligible for variable compensation including short term and long term incentives.
