Our Dallas office is looking for a Lead Mechanical Engineer to contribute to a variety of exciting buildings projects.

Job responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Take a proactive role on business development and winning work, making representations about Arup in the Dallas market.

  • Take a proactive role targeting and maintaining good client relationships.

  • Oversee, and participate training and mentoring activities for the Dallas MEP staff.

  • Maintain an environment that promotes quality and excellence.

  • Design mechanical systems including: heating, cooling, heat rejection, air distribution, ventilation, air conditioning, building automation and controls.

  • Prepare drawings detailing the system designed.

  • Prepare and review reports.

  • Incorporate sustainable design methods in buildings.

  • Manage a team of mechanical engineers on projects related to Healthcare, Aviation and Science and Industry.

  • Maintain strong internal and external client relations as it pertains to project delivery and repeat business.

  • Monitor performance of team against technical deliverables and schedule.


  • Bachelors Degree in Mechanical or Architectural Engineering with a sound knowledge of mechanical engineering fundamentals

  • At least 15 years of experience in a similar industry.

  • Project management and supervisor experience.

  • Business development capabilities, commercial/financial awareness.

  • PE Certification required.

  • Evidence of public recognition of expertise preferred (e.g. articles, conference papers, ASHRAE committee membership, or speaking engagements).

  • Experience in sustainable building design, LEED AP BD C preferred.

  • Experience in Aviation and technology projects preferred.


  • Excellent communication skills essential for working with design teams and non-technical clients.

  • Excellent planning and organization skills.

  • Highly motivated, proactive and willing to take on new challenges.

  • Collaborative in working with or leading others both externally and internally.

The Electro-Optics and Infrared Systems group provides customers with the ideal combination of performance, innovation, and value for a variety of applications. Become a key member of an integrated product team developing leading-edge, cryogenically-cooled infrared sensors and related military products. Develop technical solutions to a wide range of complex problems related to the entire product life cycle of sensor assemblies, including: proposal, concept generation, design, manufacture, integration, test and sustaining support. Basic Qualifications and Required Skills * U.S. Citizenship is required * BS in Mechanical Engineering with minimum 3.2 GPA * 0-4 years of experience in mechanical design, college Co-Op/Intern experience will be considered as well * Experience using Creo(Pro/E) or equivalent 3D CAD tool * Understanding of manufacturing methods and processes, factory standards, fabrication processes, and assembly documentation. * Familiar with principles of machine element design and heat transfer * Understanding of materials and material properties * Design of experiments and practical problem solving * Well-developed communication skills, both in verbal presentations and written documentation * Ability to work in a team environment * Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite of tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). Desired Skills * Sustaining of current designs and transitioning development designs into production * Process development of assembly and test methodology * Creation of engineering drawings and engineering documentation * Coordination with subcontractors and suppliers * Familiarity with cryogenics, vacuum technology, infrared imaging systems and opto-mechanical design * Experience in hermetic sealing technology and assembly methods Duties and Responsibilities * Detailed product design and modeling, material selection, structural and thermal analyses * Hands-on involvement with manufacturing and build of designs * Create and develop mechanical detail and assembly drawings * Follow defined work process to support product development * Support internal design reviews * Define and conduct design verification testing to support risk mitigation of new designs * Transition current and future development designs into production * Author reports and document work performed * Analyze, evaluate, and interpret historical and real-time data as it pertains to product performance * Take initiative to do more than the bare minimum, focus on details, and ensure work is completed correctly and to the highest standards * All other related duties as assigned.
