A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A SENIOR MECHANICAL ENGINEER

In this robotics mechanical engineering role, you are essential to inventing, patenting, and engineering new products for the company. You spend most of your time designing, analyzing, and testing new mechanical systems and improvements.

Working as part of a larger engineering team, you help design large construction machines that will be a part of real job sites. You have the opportunity to test our robots in real work environments and ensure they succeed in performing construction operations. Other responsibilities include participating in engineering peer review of proposed concepts and designs.

You also support other departments by helping field robot fleets and producing new robots. Your master mechanical system design and analysis skills make you a great asset, and because you are passionate about technology, you find genuine enjoyment in the work you do!

QUALIFICATIONS FOR A SENIOR MECHANICAL ENGINEER

  • Bachelor's in mechanical engineering

  • 7+ years of experience in the design of complex mechanical products / robotic systems through the full product development cycle. From inception through maturity including creating associated technical documentation package (requirements, specifications, test plans, drawings, etc.)

  • Development and evaluation of candidate system architectures

  • Selection and sizing of components including (but not limited to) motors, bearings, gears, lead screws and guide components

  • Selection of optimal materials for application based on critical parameters such as strength, stiffness, weight, tribology and thermal and galvanic compatibility

  • Design, build and test of rapid prototypes which integrate electrical, mechanical and software components

  • Strong understanding of static and dynamic structural design and analysis

  • Experienced in simulation and analysis methods (DFMEA, PFMEA, thermal analysis and tolerance analysis)

  • 7+ years of Solidworks or similar CAD experience w/ 3d multi-body design, use of master models and flexible assemblies, manipulation of large assemblies, configuration management, drawing creation, surfacing, simulation, configuration management, and motion studies.

  • Design for Manufacture (DFM) skills to go from ideation to physical part quickly. Weldments, Waterjet, CNC, Laser Cutting, 3d Printing (FDM and Others).

  • Use of Root Cause Analysis to diagnose field issues as the owner of the product and provide fixes on a timely basis.

  • Experience working with third-party vendors to develop and specify system components and drive requirements

  • Demonstrated experience with drawing generation and application of GD&T, assembly tolerance analysis, identification of datums and critical features

  • US work authorization, no visa sponsorship

Safety Sensitive Position:

This is a Safety Sensitive Position requiring work on project sites, including federal projects. Project sites contain various safety hazards associated with heavy construction.

This position may require working at heights, in confined spaces, around heavy equipment, and under constantly changing circumstances. This position may also entail project site work at night and on weekends on an as needed basis. This position will be subject to more stringent drug testing and compliance policies associated with our status as a Federal Contractor.
