The Senior Mechanical Designer will Utilize advanced CAD techniques to develop complex layout and design models and drawings utilizing theoretical and practical design knowledge, that meet company and industry standards and codes. Understands the materials and methods normally used within their discipline.

Other Requirements:

  • Prepare mechanical 3D models and engineering drawings consisting of complex arrangements, layouts, flow sheets, assemblies, isometrics, etc., from rough sketches and/or from general engineering and design information according to established drawing standards and procedures. Interpret and ensure conformance to applicable standards, codes, and company policies and procedures.

  • Conduct and/or participate in research, design, development and testing of mechanical hardware to include component modeling/analysis and tolerance analysis for designated products and/or customer applications.

  • Work closely with Engineers and other disciplines to ensure coordinated system designs.

  • Develop and design layouts of mechanical systems.

  • Ensure compliance with required safety factors, tolerances, and specifications.

  • Work closely with quality for drawing approval.

  • Apply standard drafting/design principles and theories ensuring compliance with applicable standards and codes.

  • Review supplier data and read and understand orthographic (2D) and/or isometric (3D) designs for assessment of required specifications and/or system design utilization.

  • Review existing engineering designs/drawings for accuracy and modify as required.

  • Compile data and perform dimensional and routine calculations required for the preparation of drawings.

  • Interact with vendors and manufacturing facilities to address manufacturability questions, issues, and potential design optimization.

  • Conduct prototype construction of machined assemblies and perform drawing verification. Teach technicians processes for production assembly.

  • Perform quality inspections on mechanical assemblies ensuring conformance to specifications and/or applicable drawings.

  • Perform other responsibilities associated with this position as may be appropriate.

Education and Experience:

This position requires a 2-year technical degree or certificate of completion from an accredited designer/drafter course (or equivalent) is preferred, as well as 8+ years of relevant experience designing mechanical components and assemblies.

Other Requirements:

  • Demonstrated ability to produce 3D designs, fabrication drawings, detailed BOMs and processes.

  • Strong understanding of drafting and modeling standards.

  • Strong understanding of CAD and product data structure, configuration management practices, engineering change management practices, and Bills of Material.

  • Prior Caesar II or similar piping software a plus.

  • Prior NASA or similar project experience a plus.

  • Strong computer skills including proficiency in the MS Office suite of tools (Word, PowerPoint, and Excel).

  • Exceptional attention to detail and effective, personable communication skills.

  • Clearance: U.S. citizenship required. The candidate must possess or have the ability to obtain and maintain a US Government Secret security clearance for this position.

Parsons is in the early stages of hiring Mechanical Engineers to design a one of a kind mobile launcher system for NASA at Kennedy Space Center. In this role you will perform a variety of engineering duties by applying advanced engineering techniques and analysis. You will work with a multi-discipline team to provide structural design, supervise the efforts of team members, co-ordinate across disciplines, participate in construction planning and constructability reviews and collaborate closely with the client. POSITION OVERVIEW: Completes a wide variety of difficult engineering assignments, applying engineering techniques and analyses within one discipline. The Engineer at this level is a fully qualified professional, proficient in the utilization of most engineering theories and practices. Some assignments involve CAE (computer aided engineering)/CAD (computer aided design) applications. Willingness to travel or relocate to supplier, client, or construction site locations, is expected. SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES: * Plans, organizes and performs pipe stress and pipe support analysis work to assure compliance with code and performance requirements. * Develops, integrates and documents complex or unique mechanical requirements to establish the system design. * Provides technical guidance to CAD Designers, 3-D Modelers and junior engineers. Leads periodic design reviews. * Coordinates with other engineering groups to establish the product's environment. Guides product design and verifies mechanical integrity by defining requirements for development of analytical methods, finite element models/simulations and other analysis tools to develop the mechanical environment, characteristics and performance of the product. * Performs constructability and maintainability reviews. Participates in value engineering and scope and budget reconciliation when required or requested. * Collaborates with the client to define certification processes that will ensure project requirements are met. * Develops analytical processes/tools to improve effectiveness, quality and efficiency of the design effort. Investigates emerging technologies to develop future product designs to meet projected requirements. Basic Qualifications: * Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or related technical discipline with a minimum of 3 years of related experience. * Professional Engineering License is a plus. * Strong ability to work system tasks, and adept at communicating with multiple interfaces. * Proven ability to work in a team environment. * Excellent communication (oral, written, presentation), interpersonal, negotiation and organizational skills Preferred Skills and Experience: * Solid knowledge base in cryogenics; piping/tubing including double wall pipes; pipe stress analysis. * Experience with CAESAR II Pipe Stress Analysis software or equivalent. * Experience with NASA or similar projects a plus. * Experience with 3-D design is preferred. * Applicants selected for employment will be subject to a Federal background investigation and must meet additional eligibility requirements for access to classified information or materials. * US Citizenship required Parsons Commercial Technology Group Inc.
