JOB SUMMARY

Prepares designs to assist in developing ideas generated by engineers, designs products and equipment, responsible for producing safe, technically accurate and cost effective equipment designs.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist Project Leader or Design Engineer in selection of the simpler components and the design details for inclusion in the project/product design.

  • Layout and Design specific areas as assigned per the Company procedure and standards.

  • Design general arrangements or base systems based on customer needs and requirements.

  • Analyze data to determine feasibility or product proposal.

  • Prepare or direct preparation of product or system layout with detailed drawings and schematics.

  • Review work order and procedural manuals to determine critical content.

  • Calculate figures to convert design dimensions to resizing dimensions specified for subsequent production processes.

  • Assist in systems development as required, such as drafting standards, parts list systems, computer programming.

  • Perform other work related tasks as assigned.

  • Comply with all NOV Company and HSE policies and procedures.

FACILITY/GROUP SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist Project Leaders in assigned complex design tasks and projects with minimal supervision.

  • Works in a project capacity under the Engineering Manager and Design Engineers.

  • Layout and design assigned tasks within a major project/facility.

  • Provides all necessary calculations and documentation for any specific design released.

  • Prepares technical data for estimates.

  • Delegates work and provides direction to designers and draftspersons.

  • Provides technical liaison with other departments.

  • Resolves problems in design and production released through consultation with experienced people in the company, available computer programs, and company standards and procedures

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum of 2 year vocational school in Drafting and Design

  • Preferred AAS in Drafting and Design

  • Minimum of 10 years as a designer in the Exploration and Production section of O&G

  • Minimum 10 years working experience with AutoCAD

  • Preferred experience with both AutoCAD and Inventor

JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Create 3D CAD models

  • Create fabrication, layout, and general assembly drawings

  • AutoCAD 2D and 3D

  • Microsoft Office

  • Teamcenter PLM system

  • Experience designing large assemblies (100 parts)

  • Develop and interpret P&IDs

  • Piping system design experience (desired)

  • Structural design experience (desired)

  • CAD system management experience a plus

  • Ability to adapt and be cross-trained to learn all job duties as required

  • Ability to learn technical repair and assembly guidelines and procedures

  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment

  • Ability to read drawings, instructions or repair and assembly operations

Your Opportunity As a Mechanical Designer you will work with guidance and direction on tasks and smaller projects, and as a team member of a larger project under the guidance of a Senior Engineer. You will participate in the evaluation, recommendation, and specification for engineered systems or products for a project verifying compliance with applicable codes and engineering standards / practices. Your Key Responsibilities * Conducts basic interpretations of drawings, codes, and other similar materials. * Performs Revit design for the mechanical discipline using knowledge of relevant software programs. * Works with architectural, interior, and other engineering disciplines in the coordination of the project under the direction of a senior engineer/ designer. * Performs field work as directed by a senior engineer/ designer. * Performs basic calculations to analyze and design individual building mechanical system components using company standard software and proprietary manufacturer software. * Assists with engineering duties on projects of various complexity. * Assists with collecting data and gathering information to support design decisions. * Performs other duties as assigned by the senior engineering staff. Your Capabilities and Credentials * Basic understanding of Revit and AutoCad, and the use of it as a drafting/design tool. * Ability to participate and collaborate in project team setting and to engage in creative and critical thought. * Thorough understanding of mechanical engineering concepts and ability to effectively communicate ideas to others. * Ability to interpret sketches, drawings, building program and other similar material. * Ability to take direction, follow process and accept feedback and suggestions from Senior Engineers * Requires understanding of Microsoft Office Suite, Revit, AutoCAD; Prefer experience with Newforma, Trane Trace & eQuest Education and Experience Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Engineering & EIT. Minimum of 0-2 years of experience. Co-op/Internship experience preferred. Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.
