Job Position Accountabilities / Expectations

  • Support Global Design Team workload spending approximately 80% of time, or more, as needed on projects to ensure successful execution of product design as a product designer for key vital view projects.

  • Develop and maintain state of the art medical device design procedures, systems, processes, and tools for use in FEA, CFD, DFM, and DFA standards.

  • Support project teams and the organization as a mechanical product designer, ensuring that all products designed meet the organizational and regulatory standards for mechanical design, including but not limited to ISO 60601.

  • Support project teams and the organization as a product designer, working with cross-functional teams and external resources to gather marketing or product requirements, incorporating them into pre-concept or concept-level sketches, renders, or prototypes.

  • Develop and maintain, or liaise, traceability matrices to ensure that all products designed meet the requirements as defined by the project team.

  • Design and develop fully functional, production equivalent prototypes for testing, including verification and validation as well as formative and summative assessments.

  • Design and develop pre-concept and concept sketches, renders, or prototypes for use in business case, investment board, and senior leadership presentations.

  • Spend a significant portion of time working with external partners to manage and guide mechanical and industrial design deliverables for vital few initiatives, including but not limited to functional prototypes, design reviews, schedules, and milestone deliverables.

  • Ability to lead product design reviews to a cross-functional team of key stakeholders.

  • Work with cross-functional partners to perform formative and summative assessments, and incorporate feedback into future rounds of conceptual or development work.

  • Design and develop tooling and fixturing for testing.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Design, Industrial Design, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Biomedical Engineering, or equivalent. Master's preferred.

  • Proven ability to design and develop mechanical devices, with preferred prior design and development of medical devices.

  • Proven ability to design for various rapid prototyping techniques, including but not limited to 3D printing, laser cutting and engraving, CNC, injection molding, etc.

  • Certified SolidWorks professional preferred, or proven ability in Solidworks and AutoCAD.

  • 7-9 years of global experience in Mechanical Engineering or Medical Device design, or equivalent.

  • Proven ability with FEA and CFD software, including Solidworks Simulation and Abaqus (Simulia).

  • Ability to work with cross-functional teams to develop and support business initiatives, procedures and develop standards for use globally.

  • Proven ability to sketch, either freehand or through use of computer assisted programs such as Adobe Creative Suite and Keyshot, including high-fidelity conceptual design.

  • Ability to take conceptual ideas from verbal representations to concept sketches, renders, and prototypes.

  • Ability to travel up to 10%
