We are seeking a Sr. Mechanical Design Engineer (Control Actuation Systems CAS) to join our award-winning team in Montville, New Jersey.

In this role, you will be responsible for the overall electromechanical actuator design. This is accomplished by developing a thorough understanding of the customers requirements, choosing a design architecture that meets the performance, environments, and cost targets, creating a detailed design and analysis of the actuator considering and balancing cost, technical, schedule, and risk. You will interface with the project team and customer(s), and will have daily interaction with engineers, technicians, program management, and other disciplines (manufacturing, quality) as well as frequent contact with suppliers, test facilities, contractors, and customers.

Qualified candidate will have a minimum of a Bachelors Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field, with 5+ years of direct experience with the design, development, qualification, and production of military / aerospace products. Experience with DFMA, DFx and other techniques preferred, along with understanding of and familiarity with military, aerospace and industrial specifications. Must be computer literate, with excellent oral and written communication skills along with experience with solid modeling tools (Pro Engineer tools a plus.) This position requires a detail oriented individual who must be able to work in a fast-paced environment.

Marotta Controls, Inc. is looking for an experienced Mechanical Stress and Thermal FEA Engineer to join the world-class team of engineers in our Control Actuation Systems Engineering Group. The team is responsible for designing and developing electromechanical actuation products for military weapon systems, which includes missiles, guided rockets, and smart munitions. Specifically, the stress and thermal FEA engineer will be responsible for much of the groups detailed mechanical stress and thermal analysis on both mechanical and electrical assemblies, whether using hand calcs early in the design process or using detailed finite element analysis. This is a unique opportunity to join one of the most experienced and talented teams in industry. The Mechanical Stress and Thermal FEA Engineer is responsible for all aspects of the mechanical stress and thermal analysis of the systems. This entails setting up analysis models while paying close attention to defeaturing and boundary conditions, running analyses against the customers requirements, and summarizing results into reports and presentations. Typical engineering analyses required to support the design include stress, modal, vibration, shock, and transient thermal analysis, which could include conduction, convection, and radiation. Participation in test planning, set-up, and validation, as well as validation of models against test data is also required. Regular interaction with engineers, technicians, and other disciplines (manufacturing, quality, etc) as well as frequent contact with suppliers, test facilities, contractors, and customers is required. Occasional light travel will be involved. Qualifications, Technical: 5 years of experience minimum running mechanical and thermal finite element analysis Successful, demonstrated experience performing stress, modal, vibration, shock, and transient thermal analysis Experience in the defense and/or aerospace industries, including performing analyses on the following environments: * captive carry vibration * high shock * high temperature Experience/familiar with Pro-E for solid modeling. Experience with performing structural, modal, and thermal analysis using finite element analysis tools: ANSYS highly desired, Pro-E Mechanica and/or.Abaqus are a plus. Ability to quickly assess the technical feasibility of a design or solution based on experience and basic hand calculations. Familiar/experienced with vibration, shock, and thermal cycling fatigue calculations on electrical components is a plus. Knowledge/Experience: Familiar/experienced with the design, development, qualification, and production of military / aerospace products. Familiar/experienced with military / aerospace / industrial specification and standards. Working knowledge with MS Office products (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.) and Windows. Desirable Traits: Self-starter with initiative and drive to get tasks done accurately in a timely manner. Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks simultaneously. Good communication skills (written and oral); experienced presenter comfortable giving presentations to customers. Individual that takes ownership for work product and enjoys hands-on engagement of hardware from product design through production. Ability to work as part of a team in a collaborative manner. Education: B.S. in Mechanical Engineering (other degrees will be considered with extensive packaging engineering experience). Advanced technical degree desirable.
