We are seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic laboratory technician to work on the Materials Team and assist in resin development, focusing on materials characterization and maintenance of characterization equipment. This person will serve as a key support to resin development and material quality. The successful candidate will be responsible for the maintenance and troubleshooting for characterization equipment such as Instron frames, DMA, DSC, TGA etc., as well as follow established procedures for formulation, synthesis, and characterization and ensure that a high level of product quality and consistency is reached and maintained. In addition, this candidate has demonstrated the ability to be detail-oriented during training and has demonstrated the ability to work independently. Ideal candidates will have a proven track record of keeping detailed and organized records.

This is an onsite role, Monday through Friday in our Redwood City, CA location.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform routine polymer, resin, and materials characterization (Instron, TGA, UV-Vis, DSC, DMA, etc.).

  • Perform or coordinate routine maintenance based on the manufacturer's instructions.

  • Perform initial troubleshooting of equipment and coordinate service visits from the vendor if necessary.

  • Support and perform routine analytical sample preparation (HPLC, GPC, GC-MS).

  • Perform short- and long-term stability testing of resins and materials.

  • Keep thorough characterization records.

  • Assist with development of new characterization processes and SOP's.

  • Assist with root cause investigations and corrective and preventive action implementations.

  • Document activities performed in the lab thoroughly.

  • Assist in instrument calibration and troubleshooting.

Requirements:

  • An Associate or Bachelor Degree in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering, Chemistry, Materials Science, Polymer Technology or highly experienced candidate with a high school degree/GED within the relevant industries, or working experience in characterization instrument companies.
  • 3 years+ post internship experience preferred, but open to 1 year+ hands-on experience with 1 or 2 of the listed instruments (Instron, TGA, UV-Vis, DSC, DMA)
  • Safety-conscience individual with excellent organizational skills and an eye for detail.

At Carbon, we look at the person holistically and carefully consider a wide range of factors when determining compensation. The pay range for this position is $38.08 - $45.67 per hour. Your actual salary will be based on your experience, work location, certifications and the unique skills you bring to the role. If you are not based in our Redwood City office, the range above will be adjusted for the geographical differential associated with your actual work location.
