Position: Senior Market Research Consultant

Status: US citizen or Green Card Holder

Location: Washington Metropolitan Area


Develops marketing and promotion strategies and tactics. Evaluates concepts for advertising campaigns.

Develops and manages qualitative market research studies and develops reports. Analyses web site traffic and develops quantitative reports. Reviews marketing campaigns and their impact on web site audience behavior.

Develops online survey questionnaires and launches surveys. Performs statistical analyses of responses to online surveys. Conducts various Internet analyses. Develops methodologies for optimum study results.


Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in Marketing, Business, or Statistics. An MBA or Master's Degree in Marketing is preferred.

General Experience:

At least eight (8) years of marketing research experience.

Specialized Experience:

At least five (5) years of experience in technology marketing or a related field.

Studies identify and explore salient issues and industry trends that are of universal and vital importance to the membership. Studies typically examine the forces that have shaped the current state of the industry and offer projections regarding its evolution and future. By modeling best-demonstrated practices and organizational structures of the world's most progressive organizations, studies provide our member institutions with a set of feasible practices and future vision. Consultants assume an integral role in moving the substance of major research studies and speeches forward and provide intellectual leadership within teams. Consultants provide analytical direction and guidance throughout all stages of study cycle, working through extensive primary and secondary research, hypothesis generation and testing, rigorous analysis of findings, and the final presentation of ideas. The payer research consultant will support business and operations research on health plan strategy, value-based care, care management, and member engagement. Consultants will also have the opportunity to directly interact with clients and present research virtually and onsite. This opportunity is based in Washington, D.C. Primary Responsibilities: * Key skills developed in the Consultant role include the following: * Strategic and root cause analysis * Inductive and deductive reasoning * Hypothesis generation * Ability to formulate and defend original points of view * Synthesis of complex ideas * Persuasive writing * Effective use of graphics and visuals to communicate ideas and information * Examples of recent research initiatives include: * Sizing the impact of social determinants of health * How to support providers in taking on greater population health responsibilities * Where plans can inflect rising pharmacy spending Required Qualifications: * Bachelor's Degree * 4 or more years of experience working in a professional setting * Experience conducting long-term research OR conducting primary and secondary research * Experience writing in-depth reports * Experience working at or consulting for a health plan or other managed care organization Preferred Qualifications: * MBA, MPH, or other advanced degree * Ability to quickly determine appropriate analyses and direct analysts to conduct them * Experience working with clients in a consultative role * Health care clinical experience * Experience working in a team environment, as well as independently and autonomously * Proven ability to communicate effectively with senior executives * Experience conducting root-cause analysis * Demonstrated experience meeting deadlines * Experience with solution focused problem solving and thinking through problems creatively Careers with Optum.
