The Spaceship Company (TSC) is Virgin Galactic's wholly owned space-system manufacturing organization. Headquartered at Mojave Air and Space Port in Mojave, California, it is building and testing a fleet of WhiteKnightTwo carrier aircraft and SpaceShipTwo reusable spaceships that, together, form Virgin Galactic's human spaceflight system. Like many Virgin companies across the world, its team of over 500 talented and dedicated engineers, technicians and professionals are drawn together by a willingness to disrupt and challenge the status quo and deliver innovative aerospace solutions to our customers' needs. Who You Are
The TSC Manufacturing Research and Development Group refines materials and processes to improve existing products and creates enabling technologies for manufacture of emerging new products. This group interfaces with Engineering, Programs, and Advanced Design creating projects for continuing improvement and to make new programs possible.
Design, manage and execute R&D projects that resolve identified issues or create enabling technologies for SS2 and White Knight 2 along with other emerging company projects.
Develop new processes for new products and refine existing materials and processes.
You will be given conceptual projects.
Expected to develop project plans.
Provide technical guidance for teams performing work.
Evaluate and report results.
Role will require significant experience in advanced composite materials and processing both thermosets and thermoplastics.
What you bring
Ideal candidates for this position will have a strong background in advanced composite materials and processing experience for airframe structures.
Must be self-starting with vision and attention to detail to design experiments and projects and see them through to completion in a fast paced dynamic environment.
To conform to U.S. Government space technology export regulations, applicant must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident of the U.S., protected individual as defined by ITAR (22 CFR 120.15) or eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.
