What we need:

The Sr. Manufacturing Engineer- New Product Development (NPD) is a member of the Manufacturing Engineering NPD team and is responsible for representing Manufacturing Engineering leading operational readiness activities throughout the new product development process. This position will participate on NPD teams beginning with project planning phases through production launch. Incumbent will perform a critical role in influencing new product design to ensure that it is optimized for manufacturing assembly, cost and quality in addition to meeting all specified requirements. In addition to supporting NPD introduction activity, this position may also support sustaining engineering projects. This role will also lead the development of robust manufacturing processes and setup lean manufacturing lines working with site manufacturing engineers.

What you'll be doing:

  • Senior Manufacturing Engineer on New Product Development (NPD) teams, overseeing processes from planning through to product launch.

  • Core member of NPD team and key participant in cross functional NPD team activities.

  • Provide leadership to manufacturing locations serving as the communication bridge between the R&D team and the manufacturing locations.

  • Lead project planning with manufacturing locations to determine manufacturing operational requirements including capacity, space, processes, and capital equipment.

  • Lead development of manufacturing lines utilizing lean manufacturing concepts. (single piece flow, standard work, kanban, playbook etc.).

  • Develop advanced manufacturing systems and processes to ensure process capability, repeatability & reproducibility in launched product.

  • Lead and coordinate PFMEAs to identify and mitigate process risks.

  • Establish process controls and utilizes Poke Yoke techniques to ensure robust product quality and efficiency (Mistake-proofing of products and processes).

  • Under minimal direction perform engineering duties that are broad in scope including delivering technical approach to projects. Ability to receive work stated in terms of objectives requiring project planning and judgment.

  • Ability to travel 10-20%.

What you'll need to be successful:

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical, Mechanical or Industrial engineering.

  • A minimum 3-5 years relevant manufacturing engineering experience required, preferably in narrow web converting- slitting, winding, flexo printing, inkjet printing etc.

  • Understanding of product development experience in either design or manufacturing engineering.

  • Knowledge and experience with Quality systems.

  • Capability to read and interpret technical engineering drawings and Bills of Materials.

  • Ability to work independently, identify appropriate tasks relative to responsibility and execute.

  • Experience analyzing process capability and developing and implementing product development plans and process improvement plans.

  • Good verbal, written communication skills.

  • Ability to work with other individuals and as part of a team.

  • Strong project and task management skills including the ability to plan, prioritize, organize, gather facts, prepare schedules, document procedures and process and exercise sound judgment in decision making.

  • Experience developing PFMEAs and control plans to identify, mitigate and manage production-based risks.

  • Experience with manufacturing process development utilizing error proofing to mitigate process risk.

  • Working knowledge of manufacturing techniques including Six Sigma and Lean Manufacturing.

  • Possess the additional skills: business acumen, basic team facilitation, assignment flexibility, independent thinking and responsibility for execution.
