As a Senior Manufacturing Engineer at Boston Dynamics, you will help build and enhance our development plant's manufacturing systems that enable predictable production outputs. As part of the Manufacturing Engineering team, you work on introducing changes to our robots, stabilizing and ramping up production while also managing the continuous improvement of the production of our products. Every day, you will collaborate with our production and product transition engineering team to define and understand blocking production problems and create and execute solutions to those problems. Day-to-day activities:
Manage and maintain readiness of production assembly and test-related equipment & tools.
Optimize manufacturing costs without compromising product quality through continuous improvement initiatives on robot platforms, off-robot systems, and procedures.
Support new product introductions and manufacturing capabilities by managing technical infrastructure and providing DFM/DFx input.
Develop clear and well-understood documentation and processes, which include but are not limited to standard operation procedures, work and rework instructions, preventive maintenance plans, line layouts, etc., in accordance with strategy.
Identify, root cause and solve product introduction and production problems on new and existing products.
Implement agile manufacturing processes that can adapt quickly to design changes.
Support sourcing decision-making by helping to evaluate alternative manufacturing processes and propose DFM/DFx changes to support lower-cost manufacturing.
Provide hands-on support to the production team to manage the manufacturing of robots.
Design assembly fixtures, manufacturing aids, and/or custom tooling to support service.
Help to select contract manufacturers and support the outsourcing process, including the needed assembly documentation.
Support the implementation and maintenance of an M-BOM.
Desired skills:
BS/MS degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
Minimum 5 years experience in a product manufacturing environment
Experience with manufacturing documentation, process development, and data analysis
Experience with design & selection of production processes & equipment
Experience with creating and approving change orders associated with products, procedures, and BOMs.
Excellent reporting, troubleshooting, and communication skills
Proficient in Arena or equivalent PLM system (Windchill, Team Center, etc.)
Experience with CATIA or equivalent (NX, Solidworks, etc.)
Experience with part drawings, GD&T and TSA
Nice to have skills:
Experience in robotics industry or related
New Product Introduction (NPI) experience
Comfortable working on early-stage products that require rapid design iterations
Experience with low to medium-volume production
Experience in design for mass production of multi-part products and assemblies [DFM, DFA]
Working experience with quality processes and systems (process control, 8D and other RCCA frameworks, etc.)
