Senior Manufacturing Engineer Assembly

Scope of the job:

Supporting the Product Company to be an advanced manufacturing factory for Turbomolecular Pumps (TMP) in close collaboration with the technical authority Product Company Yachiyo, Japan. It is to develop and sustain the assembly and test process capability and capacity on the relevant equipment. Contributing to continuous improvement of safety, product quality, internal lead time and costs of in-house machined parts.

This position will entail training in Japan for a duration of 3-6 months.

This role will play an important part in setting up the new line in Chandler to ready it for production, helping with the transfer of knowledge from Japan and actively participating in the installation and commissioning phase of the project.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Is responsible for generating and modifying manufacturing process documentation and assuring that manufacturing processes and related documentation follow established policies and procedures.

  • Delivers technical training to production operators in order to develop their skills.

  • Assists in identifying equipment needs on the shopfloor.

  • Supports Production in reducing/eliminating equipment and tooling downtime or scrap, utilizing good analytical methodologies. Continually improves existing operation, for increased quality, productivity, efficiency and cost savings.

  • Cooperates/supports SME/SMEL (subject matter expert) during design, development and sourcing of tools, fixtures, gauges and special equipment for high precision manufacturing processes. Co-ordinates with internal and external partners.

  • Cooperates with SME to keep layout updated due to impact from NPI and another projects.

  • Follows CRW (Change Review Worksheet) process when introducing new equipment and redesigning an assambly line.

  • Creates and updates SOPs, specifications, testing and packing procedures, routings and BoMs for respective lines.

  • Investigates reasons and root causes of FTTFR - Firts Time Test Failure Rate (FPY), non-conformities of process, propose and implement containment, corrective and preventive actions.

  • Participates in PFMEA and DFMEA.

  • Utilizes LEAN, Six Sigma, QRQC, and other best practice tools and principles for day-to-day problem solving and continuous improvement.

  • Collaborates with the Internal Audit team to perform annual schedule of quality system audits.

  • Prepares implementation of corrective and preventive actions for solving customers complaints (QRQC and 8D's)

  • Cooperates with production planner/scheduler for ensuring the released products have adequate BOM, routings and documentation.

  • Responsible for implementing Engineering Changes and permits, when it is required.

  • Actively participates in company projects and identification of possible cost lowering measures, improvement of machinery efficiency and work productivity.

  • Provides other employees with information needed for proper performance of their work, shares information and experience with other colleagues.

  • Is responsible for Vacuum Technique Production System (VTPS- B) enhancement within designated area.

Skills/Knowledge/Experience

Educational Level

  • Preferably Degree (Bachelor or above) in mechanical engineering or equivalent

Experience

  • Minimum of 5 years' experience in process development in a manufacturing environment is a must. Proven experience in a manufacturing/industrial assembly environment is highly preferable.

  • Experience in assembly line design, implementation and operations. Experience in high speed balancing and final product testing is a plus.

Knowledge Area/Skills

  • Deep knowledge of Lean manufacturing and quality tools (e.g. Kaizen, Time-Study, VSM, PFMEA, Problem Solving Tools) and safety management tools (risk assessment, permit to work)

  • Proficient in Microsoft 365 suite, AutoCAD and orientation in modern IT structures and processes. SAP is highly desirable.

  • Analytical and critical thinking, problem-solving attitude.

  • Strong interpersonal communication, excellent organizational competencies.

  • Open minded person to implement new ideas and see opportunities for improvement.

  • Willingness to spend time in Japan during training phase

  • Fluency in spoken and written English (B2).
