Job Description: Arconic Fastening Systems(AFS) is seeking a Senior Manufacturing Engineer to develop and refine manufacturing processes for a high precision product line. This position is located at the AFS aerospace fastener plant in Tucson, AZ.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain material specifications, product drawings, routing sheets and manufacturing procedures of the assigned product

  • Provide analysis and assists with capital equipment justifications.

  • Assist in getting new capital "on line".

  • Create or revise plant layouts.

  • Design and debug manufacturing processes and tooling for headers, rollers, drillers etc.

  • Ensure continuous improvement of tooling and manufacturing methods.

  • Assist in reduction of set-up time.

  • Partner with production technicians or other departments to enhance manufacturing processes, troubleshoot issues and provide technical guidance.

  • Assist in determination of root cause of problems.

  • Support ISO9000/D1-9000 implementation.

  • Help to ensure that quality and standards for the department are adhered to and maintained.

  • Assume other special activities and responsibilities from time to time as required.

  • Adhere to Arconic EH&S, Quality, Continuous Improvement and other Company Policies.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited Institution

  • Minimum 3 years of Engineering experience in Manufacturing

  • Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.

  • This position is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) which requires U.S. person status. ITAR defines U.S. person as an U.S. Citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident (i.e. 'Green Card Holder'), Political Asylee, or Refugee.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prefer the Bachelor's Degree is in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or Industrial Engineering

  • 3+ years of Engineering experience in Manufacturing

  • Engineering experience in the Aerospace industry

  • Engineering experience in a metal working industry

  • Experience in the fastener industry

  • Experience and proficiency with SolidWorks; proficiency with Microsoft Office applications

  • Experience in a machine shop environment

This includes the design and build of new stations, the improvement and maintenance of existing stations, the implementation of new product on new stations as well as troubleshooting. Automation stations need to automate optical assembly and alignment as well as test of high power diode systems. Such diode systems are used in a variety of markets such as medical devices, directed energy and industrial applications. This position will have the ability to work in a self-directed way creating better efficiencies for the site in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. Responsibilities * Create complex assembly stations that combine precise, repeatable component placement, active alignment and metrology of laser beam quality * Specify robotic manipulators and end effectors, cameras, sensors and optics * Develop software applications to assemble and align laser modules * Build prototypes and complete validation testing to project milestones * Transfer new assembly stations and processes to manufacturing * Transfer new assembly stations from overseas to the US – extended periods of stays overseas (Germany) might be required * Deliver project assignments to schedule in a multi-project environment * Create and improve stations to increase throughput of manufacture while maintaining fidelity and quality of the product * Stay current with market and technology developments including market trends, new technologies and competitive products Education and Work Experience: Required Knowledge and Skills * Excellent knowledge of automation principles and equipment * Ability to integrate vision, motion and complex measurement instrumentation * Excellent programming skills: LabView and SQL databases * Excellent written and verbal communication skills * Excellent team and interpersonal skills * Strong leadership ability including project and time management * System-level thinking combined with strong attention to detail * Ability to travel domestically and internationally * Excellent organizational skills * Ability to work collaboratively * Strong analytical skills * Ability to easily convey complex technical details and programs to broad audiences Desired Knowledge and Skills * Knowledge of optics and micro-optics highly valuable * Working knowledge of high power diodes Qualifications * BS in engineering, computer science, physics or equivalent discipline required.
