  • *Accomplishes manufacturing staff results by communicating job expectations; planning, monitoring, and appraising job results; coaching, counseling, and disciplining employees; initiating, coordinating, and enforcing systems, policies, and procedures

  • *Resolves Aid in personnel problems by analyzing data; investigating issues; identifying solutions; recommending action

  • *Technical ability to know, understand and communicate the various processes of their department

  • *Demonstrate equipment operations and work and safety procedures to new employees or assign employees to experienced workers for training

  • Responsible for schedule adherence while still maintaining high quality standards

  • Demonstrates knowledge of labor standards and ability to compare actual labor hours to standard

  • Ensure cross training and job rotation of personnel; effectively and efficiently resource plan and schedule to meet commitments

  • Feedback for performance reviews, provide areas of development and recognize achievements

  • Confer with management or subordinates to resolve workplace issues.

  • *Directs the work of employees within the area, ensuring the correct work instructions are being followed and continuous workflow is maintained

  • *Trains new employees on manufacturing processes and computer skills, and provides ongoing coaching to all employees within area

  • *Promotes job and process improvement as it relates to the department (through 5S as well as other improvement initiatives), including Gemba walks, value stream mapping and kaizen activities as well as audits

  • *Interacts with engineering to facilitate rework and implementation of new products

  • *Monitors process inspection and testing queues with a focus on level loading

  • *Follows safety guidelines (PPE, etc.) and demonstrates safe work practices

  • *Maintains a good safety record, has a working knowledge of the behavioral based safety initiatives and accepts the responsibility to communicate unsafe situations

  • *Adheres to the safety and quality standards (goals and metrics) of the organization while working within a team environment

  • *Maintains timely and accurate production reports, checklists and other documentation

  • Provides effort in all levels of work tasks, including highly technical job functions as well as cleaning the work area as needed

  • Responds to multiple production assignments in a timely and efficient manner

  • Overtime may be required, based on business need; regular attendance required

  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • 5 years' minimum experience in a manufacturing environment, previous experience in a supervisory SMA or lead SMA position preferred

  • 4+ years of fiber optic splicing experience

  • 4+ years of clean room experience

  • Strong working knowledge of Lean manufacturing/5S required

  • Demonstrated leadership skills and positive communication style

  • Proficiency in electro-mechanical assembly operations required

  • Math skills to include addition, subtraction, multiplication and division in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals

  • Proficient computer skills, including entering data into software program, looking up documents within an online library and MS Office, including Outlook

  • Ability to read and interpret handheld measuring equipment such as a metal rule and pressure gauges.

  • Previous experience of quality systems and manufacturing processes required

  • Must possess strong mechanical troubleshooting skills and be able to train associates in the team

  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written and oral instructions

  • Efficiently use measuring equipment, including but not limited to tape measures, calipers, verniers and micrometers

  • Apply basic troubleshooting skills and make sound decisions

  • Safely work with hand tools and sharps, such as scissors, regularly

  • Possess the ability to react to changes of responsibility throughout the day

  • Must have the flexibility to respond to multiple assignments

  • Ability to work any shift, including nights and weekends

  • Ability to speak, read and write English with technical proficiency

  • Strong understanding of Microsoft Office Programs such as Outlook, Excel and Word

  • High School diploma or GED required; Bachelor's Degree preferred

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE: High School diploma or general education degree (GED). Bachelor's degree preferred. Five years of experience in a manufacturing environment required, previous experience in a supervisory SMA or lead SMA position preferred.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

REASONING ABILITY: Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Possess the ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations. Must have the flexibility to respond to multiple assignments.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to:

  • Wear the proper personal protective equipment for each task, including, but not limited to, safety boots, safety glasses, hearing protection, gloves, dust mask, etc

  • Climb up and down from equipment; climb up and down a ladder and work at heights up to 40'

  • Maintain proper balance while working at elevated level

  • Regularly lift and/or move 40 pounds. Anything heavier than 40 pounds requires additional assistance

  • Ability to reach with hands and arms and use hands to finger, or handle objects, tools and controls

  • Ability to stand, walk, crawl, and climb stairs regularly

  • Ability to bend, squat, stoop, kneel or crouch frequently

  • Ability to talk and/or hear frequently

  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus

  • Ability to work both indoors (regularly) and outdoors (occasionally) in all elements
