Job Summary

Serves as critical support staff for the Dean of Students Office by overseeing day-to-day operations. Develops all office communication and yearly outreach plans and executes accordingly. Manages student referrals and student support initiatives. This position also supports initiatives and events in the Dean of Students Office.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

• Oversees efforts in the Dean of Students Office to include assisting students in making sensible and well-informed decisions about their academic and personal matters while navigating a crisis or personal issue. Additionally, working with faculty to circumnavigate classroom concerns/student concerns.

• Negotiates opportunities and challenges with students, parents, faculty, etc. that are an important part of a highly demanding academic environment and finds appropriate resources within and beyond the Division of Student Affairs.

• Directs all facets of communication efforts and marketing for the office, including but not limited to social media, web updates, office mailouts, brochures, and other print pieces as necessary.

• Operates as primary point person for day-to-day management for the Dean of Student Office, including work orders, inventory management, Free Speech reservations, academic notification, office budget, etc.

• Serves as Director of the Miss University of Southern Mississippi scholarship competition and facilitates annual events and subsequent appearances for Miss USM, including participants in the Miss Mississippi competition. Additionally, must attend state meetings and competitions

• Oversees operation of the Eagle's Nest Food pantry that serves the USM campus community, including supervision of graduate assistant and student interns from the School of Social Work.

• Advises the Student Government Association and executes all related student development/events for all branches through intentional programmatic/training opportunities for nearly 100 students involved in the Student Government Association, including executive officers, Cabinet, Senate, Judicial Board, Freshmen Associates, etc.

• Functions as fiscal manager for the annual SGA budget, including purchasing, budget reconciliation, and property control. Procurement and other related budgeting duties.

• Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in College Student Personnel, Higher Education, or a related field; 1-2 years of work experience with student organizations, student engagement, and advising student groups.

• Resourceful and determined to provide a positive experience for others.

• Detail-oriented.

• Ability to anticipate needs.

Preferred Qualifications

Master's degree from an accredited college or university in College Student Personnel, Higher Education or a related field; 3 or more years of work experience with student organizations, student engagement, and advising student groups.
