Johnson Controls is on an exciting journey of strategic transformation to being a digital building company and we are transforming our leaders and skills of our workforce. As the Senior Manager of Talent Management you will be responsible for JCI's talent experience through the enterprise talent processes. As part of the Talent Management COE, you will contribute to continued evolution of our skills strategy, talent mobility and other enterprise Talent initiatives.

The role is global, spanning business units within the geographic region. Your work impacts all leaders and professional employees in Johnson Controls and is instrumental to the success of talent in the organization.

You will report to the Vice President, Talent Management, Learning and Development and partner closely with HR Business Partners (HRBP), Centers of Excellence including Total Rewards, Talent Acquisition, HR Operations, HR Analytics, and Learning and Development.

How you will do it:

You will lead the delivery of talent management program and service offerings for the enterprise. You may manage talent management team members directly. Seek to understand the unique needs of individuals, teams, departments, and the company overall to define, create and/or leverage the tools and processes that enable our high performance culture.

  • Provide thought leadership, build organizational capabilities, and guide execution of talent processes, including but not limited to:

  • Organization Talent Review: Design, lead and execute the end to end process including workday succession and 9-box, calibration, roll up to Executive Committee and Board of Directors. Partner with CHRO, VP Talent Management, HR Technology team, HR business partners, and business leaders to ensure the health of our leadership pipeline and depth of organizational talent. Accelerate leadership readiness and mitigate risk to continuity. Design learning approach and participate in deployment. Identify continual improvement and automation opportunities.

  • Performance Management: Ensure tools and processes for performance management provide calibrated differentiation of performance levels and that leaders are equipped to effectively deliver performance messaging. Ensure goal setting, mid-year, and end-of-year appraisal processes are completed across the enterprise.

  • Individual Development: Enable career mobility/progression practices and approaches to drive transparency and employee engagement, spark development and growth, and support the growth and evolution of the company

  • Coaching and Mentoring: Develop, implement, and manage coaching and mentoring programs to identify, develop and cultivate high potential next generation leaders to create a robust pipeline that is ready to meet ongoing and future staffing needs.

  • Skills: Part of a team that architects skills strategy and roadmap. Will help design and create skills-related offering including: Career Profiles, skills validation and assessment, mapping of skills, on the job assignments based upon skills, and Talent marketplace, etc.

  • Talent Metrics: Partner with HR Analytics team to enhance enterprise dashboards for HRBPs to ensure we are helping the business focus on Talent Management KPIs. Work with data from analysis to insight in order to measure effectiveness of talent management initiatives and to recommend and execute appropriate follow-up actions.

  • Research market developments and best practices in talent management and organization development to serve as a subject matter expert and provide performance consultation to the organization regarding critical people issues; build and maintain relations with external sources.

  • Continuously improve talent processes to innovate and integrate best practices, and to drive efficiency and effectiveness.

What we look for:

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field

  • 10+ total years experience; relevant experience 5+ years preferred including proven track record working in a Center of Expertise (COE) designing enterprise-wide aspects of Talent Management

  • Experience with Performance management and Succession Planning

  • Comfort learning new technology and designing processes through human capital or other IT systems (Workday, Oracle, SuccessFactors, SAP)

  • Collaborative thought leader and change agent

  • Strong external orientation and continuous learner

  • Ability to build trusted relationships with senior leaders

  • Experience leading in a large, highly matrixed, global organization

  • Excellent influencing, interpersonal, relationship building and team collaboration skills

  • Able to translate business needs into talent programs that have measured impact on the business

  • Thinks strategically, yet tactically focused on execution

  • Effective written and verbal communication ability

  • Able to utilize Microsoft suite of software to complete job duties

Preferred

  • Master's degree in HR, Talent, Organization Dynamics, I/O Psychology

  • Knowledge and practical experience with workforce planning, enterprise skills or other specialized areas of talent management

  • Experience leading in a technology forward business

  • Experience with Workday human capital system

NOTE: The preference is for this to be a hybrid role based at our Glendale, WI office but it could also be a virtual/remote position and we will consider candidates who reside within the United States.
