Job Summary

Manages the Global Sourcing and Procurement function for the Diagnostics business segment to assure efficient procurement of components, supplies, services, and equipment. This new role was created to help unite a function that previously was run in silos. Meridian was taken private in 2023 and a transformation is necessary to support the rapid growth expected in advance of a future IPO.

Directly manages a team of three in Cincinnati, OH and indirectly manages a team of two in Quebec City, Canada and an individual in Milan, Itay. Collectively the team manages suppliers and handles sourcing and procurement for the Cincinnati, OH; Quebec City, Canada; Billerica, MA; and Milan, Italy locations. Works closely with the Vice President - Strategy / Corporate Development / Global Corporate Functions, in addition to leveraging the direct and indirect team, to improve global policies and procedures, reduce material costs, and develop effective supplier relationships. This is a highly visible and responsible position that will impact the overall success of the organization.

Key Duties

Tasks/Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Strategy:

  • Work with manager to develop and implement a sourcing and procurement strategy for the Company that includes establishing best practices, defining data / reporting requirements, and revising procedures to improve team efficiency.

  • Establish and maintain category management strategy that includes eliminating sole source / single source situations, or minimizing risk where required, consolidating suppliers and delivering cost savings leveraging the global purchasing power of the Company.

  • Coordinate with Life Science segment sourcing and procurement personnel on consolidating supplier purchase volumes to reduce total corporate costs consistent with established supply chain strategy.

  • Establish and maintain sustainable procurement strategy.

  • Function as a leader and facilitator for major supply chain projects, such as ERP or purchase order automation system implementation.

  • Sourcing & Procurement Management:

  • Oversee the identification of and approve suppliers consistent with the company's Quality System requirements and category management strategy.

  • Oversee analysis of bids and negotiate supply agreements in accordance with company policies.

  • Coordinate with Production Planning to assure adequate inventory levels to support the production plan.

  • Oversees the team's analysis of purchase requisitions and issuing of purchase orders to approved suppliers as per procedure.

  • Ensure all Purchasing records and documents are maintained in a manner consistent with all relevant FDA and/or ISO regulation guidelines as well as company policy.

  • Collaborate with Project Managers on new purchased materials requirements to support new product development projects.

  • Track key supplier performance indicators and report progress monthly.

  • Accept fiduciary responsibility for Sourcing and Procurement and communicates and maintains adherence to Meridian's corporate policies and procedures.

  • Manages and mentor employees in accordance with company training program and SOPs to ensure staff can perform tasks correctly, safely, and compliantly.

  • Build and lead a staff culture that embraces Inclusion, Diversity and Equity.

  • Tactical:

  • Work with electric and gas utility providers to secure best pricing for energy consumption requirements and partner with the Facilities teams and ESG Working Group to reduce environmental impact of the Company's operations over time.

  • Reviews and monitors market information to investigate new sources of supply.

  • Serve as Materials Management representative at all Quality Review Board meetings and assists in resolution of materials quality issues as required.

  • Ensure direct and indirect reports comply with all company Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and guidelines. Own development and maintenance of all relevant supplier management and purchasing SOPs and work instructions

Other duties as assigned.

  • Ability to walk up and down several flights of stairs throughout the workday in a multi-functional facility.

  • Must be able to analyze, concentrate and solve complex issues routinely through the course of the work shift and remain focused in a fast-paced open environment throughout the course of the workday.

  • Ability to sit/stand for long periods of time, stoop, reach and bend throughout the course of the work shift.

  • Ability to work on a PC including repetitive use of a keyboard and mouse for long periods throughout the course of the work day.

Qualifications

Minimum Education or Equivalent Experience Required/Preferred:

  • Bachelor's degree is required, concentration in business or science is preferred.• Minimum of 7 years' experience in a manufacturing environment utilizing ERP systems required, supply chain experience preferred.• 5+ years in a managerial role, experience managing remote employees and/or indirect reporting relationships is a plus.• CPM or CPSM certifications a plus.

Competencies Required or preferred

  • Extensive supplier negotiation, contract management, and supplier partnership skills

  • Knowledge and hands on experience using and implementing supply chain best practices.

  • Experience monitoring and managing inventory levels including making purchasing decisions based on a production plan.

  • Strong computer proficiency in Microsoft Office, advanced Excel expertise required.

  • Significant experience with ERP and/or inventory management software system

  • Demonstrated strong leadership, team building and organizational skills.

  • Ability to read, understand and follow all company SOPs and guidelines.

  • Must possess exceptional communication, interpersonal, problem solving and customer service skills.

  • Readily adapts to changing priorities, effectively manages own time, sets priorities for direct reports to ensure tasks, projects are completed on time.

  • Ability to maintain regular attendance and punctuality requirements.

  • May be required to work additional hours outside of the normal work shift to ensure departmental goals are met (evenings and weekends).
