The Senior Software Engineering Manager is part of the WebSolutions team that delivers innovative solutions our digital properties. Thisposition is best fit by a leader that is Technologist at heart with provenexperience bringing best practice and creative technological innovation.

This position requires a strong leader with functional &technical background in researching, planning, developing, implementing andtroubleshooting various systems. Will lead a development team in regards toproject-specific work, day to day requests and will serve as coach & mentorto their professional development. Helps evaluate new techniques andtechnologies to enhance the experience. Ability to be hands on when needed.

Duties and

Responsibilities:

  • Strong ability to see the 'big picture' and able to implement strategies that align tasks/people/requirements for success in meeting the department goals

  • Effectively manages the day-to-day activates of the team including employee maintenance such as time off approvals, performance appraisals, and promoting a positive working environment

  • Maintains a manner of leadership and flexibility that diffuses pressure and promotes a team atmosphere

  • Provide training and mentoring to the team members. and be a team builder. Be self-motivated, constant learner ad adapt in a face paced environment

  • Drive test automation and best practices for quality software development

  • Manage developers within an Agile software development lifecycle

  • Ensures resource workload is clearly defined and appropriately coordinated to meet deliverable timelines

  • Perform coaching, career planning, and performance management activities

  • Encourages an open, learning, and progressive environment to allow the team's exploration of new solutions

  • Effectively communicates the feasibility of requested deliverables and timelines to internal Business and Project Stakeholders

  • Assist with creation of road map and strategy, development, and implementation of new solutions

  • Maintain a working relationship with other departments to negotiate and coordinate work

  • Contribute to technical and solution review sessions with development team and partner teams

  • Ensure in the definition of standards and best practices for all current and new frameworks are followed

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology or equivalent

  • 5-8 years of software development, implementation and support required

  • Minimum 5 years' people leader experience to include responsibility for team of 5 or more employee and contractors, business analyst's/software engineer's/test engineers (onshore and offshore)

  • Excellent leadership skills to mentor engineers

  • Ability to influence and work effectively with other departments and external vendors

  • Specific knowledge/experience in most of the following highly preferred:

  • Scala, Java, Node.js

  • ReactJS, HTML, XML, Web Services, HTTP, SOAP, REST, SQL

  • AWS or similar Cloud Native Solutions

  • Strong OOD / OOP knowledge

  • Reactive Programming

  • Single Page Web Application

  • Conceptual, logical, and physical application design

Job Summary Become part of an exciting team focused on the development of the systems and software for training systems with a focus on cybersecurity. This team is responsible for providing cyber security solutions to the training systmes in use by the aviators and crew for some of the most advanced aircraft in the world. This impact is felt both domestically and abroad with trainers for both our US government and for foreign governments through Foreign Military Sales. The Simulator & Training Systems (STS) Fixed Wing and Mission Systems Engineering department seeks a Senior Engineering Manager to lead a team of engineers in the development of new and exciting simulation systems and products. The Senior Engineering Manager role is comprised of two main functions, a technical portion and a leader portion. In the technical area this role has direct responsibility for leadership and management of systems/software development activities, particularly with cybersecurity concepts, from identifying stakeholders and capturing originating requirements/operational concepts, high level requirements, and detailed requirements development through code development, design and integration and finally through test and certification. Candidate should have prior engineering experience with cyber security or simulation systems. Ideally the candidate will have some cybersecurity/information assurance knowledge in regards to security concerns for software development. The candidate will also be responsible for identifying the necessary staff, facilities and equipment needed for successful execution of projects. Candidates must have strong technical, leadership and organizational skills as well as project management experience. The candidate will be expected to spend a significant portion of their time in a direct technical role. The candidate should show the ability to unleash energy within a team through passion and enthusiasm. This position requires excellent written and verbal communication skills along with the ability to interface with Executive Managers, Program Managers and Operations Managers across all business areas within Collins Aerospace. In addition to communication with those functional areas, the candidate should be able to demonstrate the ability to create and leverage powerful networks. Job Responsibilities * Responsible for success of the team in meeting planned program milestones and activities. * Actively participates in team's technical activities in order to coach and influence the team. * Responsible for adherence to budgets, schedules, work plans and performance requirements, along with planning and budgeting. * Guides and sets direction with team for a common implementation of cybersecurity practices across the organization. * Assigns technical resources to work assignments. * Actively addresses employee performance and development, both issues and career growth. * Oversees and participates in development of engineering bids to ensure success * Responsible for building a team including the on-boarding and assimilation of new hires. * This position may require occasional travel * Responsible for interacting with program management to ensure that scope is managed. Desired skills/experience: * Experience in avionics simulation systems development, verification/validation, and interfaces would be beneficial. * Strong teamwork orientation is a must. * Familiarity with either systems engineering process or software development process is required. * Candidate must be well organized and able to communicate effectively with engineering, leadership and customers. * Candidate has an understanding of Risk Management Framework, and other cybersecurity industry standards. Basic Qualifications * Must have a cybersecurity background and the ability to show understanding of Risk Management Framework (RMF), Assessment and Authorization, Defense Federal Acquisition Regulation Supplement (DFARS) minimum security standards for Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI), Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGs), Assured Compliance Assessment Solution (ACAS), Security Content Automation Protocol (SCAP), Information Assurance policies, procedures, and hardening of systems. In absence of the cyber security knowledge, a software development background, with leading teams is acceptable. * Must have a current security clearance at at least the Secret level. * Must have a strong acumen for earned value management. * Must be able to show experience in leading a team.
