Astellas is announcing a Senior Manager, Cloud Analytics, RWI in Northbrook, IL.

Purpose & Scope:

The Cloud Analytics Strategist, Real World Informatics and Analytics is responsible for recommending, designing and implementing cloud based data and analytics solutions for Astellas current and future digital healthcare information and RWI scope. This role reports into Director, Information Strategy and Management and helps with implementing the information management strategy to enable Astellas' aspirations towards a world-class real-world informatics and analytics function supporting the varied needs across all major geographies and functions. Success in the role requires staying current with the latest cloud based technologies, analytics, monitoring and audit standards, security and privacy policies and business applications in real-world informatics (data, privacy, and evidence). The role is meant to serve as a subject matter expert in the best approaches for cloud based analytics support and distributed computing in support of analytics and RWI.

Esential Job Responsibilities:

  • Identify areas for improvement with current infrastructure and propose future state to support RWI use cases, analytics best practices, and regulations.

  • Improving the delivery of large complex projects by implementing standard processes, tools, and templates that will be used consistently across the RWI&A

  • Implement scripts to support full automation of systems.

  • Monitor and act on the alerts generated by the security services implemented in the current RWI environment.

  • Implement, document and maintain security controls and help monitor adherence to SOPs

  • Participate in design and architecture review meetings with RWI Management, IS and infrastructure vendors.

  • Implement security, monitoring, controls and safe guards in collaboration with IS and aligned with global RWI regulations and guidelines

  • Provide updates on the status of project tasks and deliverables

  • Participate in several concurrent projects in information management for the real-world informatics and analytics function in a fast-paced environment

  • Ensure the RWI&A Analytics environment is running at an optimal state and quickly resolve any technical issues.

  • Participate in process improvements initiatives involving business areas.

  • Collaborate with Cloud Analytics Strategy Lead to identify required technology architecture needs to design and implement a solution delivering near-term impact and aligned with long term strategies

  • Implement security requirements, metadata standards, data quality and testing procedures for the data lake/warehouse consistent with analytic and RWI best practices

  • Work with Cloud Analytics Strategy lead in implementing best practices for managing RWI&A infrastructure and information management

  • Implement improvements, enhancements or corrections to aid in the success of ongoing projects

  • Training end users on appropriate systems, governance and information management

  • Troubleshoot issues with applications, works with appropriate resources to resolve them

  • Continually learn new tools and techniques to support RWI and storing and accessing information consistent with the RWI mission

Quantitiative Dimensions:

  • Interacting and managing with various contractors and managed services partners

  • Collaborating with internal partners to provide solutions on the analytics cloud platform

  • Close partnership with IS organization

Organizational Context:

Role is new and reports to the Ast Director of Cloud Analytics.



  • 5+ years of Pharma experience or related regulated industry

  • Experience in deploying, monitoring and performance tuning high availability, multi-zone and multi-region enterprise environments.

  • 1+ years of hands-on experience with AWS services related to compute, storage, network, deployment and management, administration and security, automation technologies.

  • Experience Supporting Data integration and Security aspects for analytics

  • Experience translating regulations into security and controls.

  • Experience with firewall and network proxy technology

  • Experience contributing to architecture and design of enterprise systems

  • Expertise in implementing security services from vendors (preferred Dome9, Alert Logic, EM7)

  • Experience in infrastructure capacity estimation

  • Hands-on experience in DevOps automation and tools (Preferred Chef, Puppet and Shell Scripts)

  • Experience with code versioning tools supporting DevOps/AppDev

  • Thorough understanding of networking fundamentals and impact on analytic solutions.

  • Knowledge on Software Development Lifecycle Methodology (SDLC)

  • Experience in the development of business process scripts and/or hands-on experience with the configuration of business applications

  • Candidates must understand commercial/business flow in the pharmaceutical industry.

  • Experience managing enterprise applications

  • Possess strong interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively interact with all levels of employees including senior management

  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint

  • Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills, attention to details, and the ability to multi-task.

  • Experience training end-users

  • Experience managing vendors and holding them accountable to timelines and deliverables

  • Excellent organizational, planning and project management skills and ability to effectively manage cross-functional projects

  • Ability to work independently in a dynamic fast- paced environment, with minimal supervision.

  • BS or MS in Computer Science, Information Systems, Healthcare Informatics or related field


  • AWS Certification or equivalent

  • Experience managing enterprise applications.

  • Cross-cultural project management and communication experience

  • Working Knowledge of the various AWS services like VPC, Direct connect, VPN, Routing tables, subnets, Route 53, EC2, S3, RDS, security groups

  • Familiarity of Real World Data and the regulations around RWI analytics and data

  • Experience in AWS IAM security policies and building private AMI's

Purpose & Scope: This position will be responsible for working closely with the Director of Corporate Strategy and Innovation and the Corporate Strategy team along with Corporate Development leadership to deliver corporate initiatives that align to Astellas' global and regional business objectives. This role is also responsible for working on the annual plan presentation and various strategic requests from global headquarters. The person in this position will have three main area of responsibilities (1) Managing strategy development efforts including the strategic elements of the annual plan, business planning harmonization efforts, and divisional objectives. (2) Managing the digital health incubator pilots day to day process and supporting the establishment of a digital community of practice and (3) Serve as the liaison between Astellas and MATTER (a Chicago based health incubator) as well as support additional sponsorships and partnerships with external thought leading organizations.
