The Sr. Manager, Real Estate Credit manages the functions and responsibilities related to overall credit quality and regulatory compliance. Ensures credit and regulatory standards are consistently met with regards to investor, regulator, and internal policies; recommends and implements changes to policies and procedures accordingly. Ensures underwriting department is fully trained and compliant while ensuring quality standards are met through administration of prefunding audits. Responsible for mortgage origination system setup and compliance as well as document quality (including all regulatory disclosures).

  • Develops department strategic plans and position standards; assists leadership team in improving the effectiveness and efficiency of organizational operations, automated programs and internal controls.

  • With support of individual line managers, manages daily operations, including establishment and management of budget, operating expenses, policy and procedure, employee development and recognition, performance management, production level expectations.

  • Mentors direct reporting managers in all aspects of RE business operations and the Credit Union, provides counsel and advice on matters related to employee performance and development.

  • Sets direction for underwriting, compliance, loan origination system, and audit functions within mortgage origination.

  • Creates a consistent workflow and member experience; identifies and resolves pain points that adversely impact quality and service.

  • Develop KPIs and holds staff and direct reports accountable.

  • Identifies, creates and implements reports to improve pipeline management.

  • Provides continuous feedback to management in the form of reports, charts and statistics as requested; prepares routine and ad-hoc reports and graphs as requested.

  • With help of Underwriting Manager, updating underwriting policies and setting Loan Origination Systems accordingly.

  • Working in conjunction with Prefunding Manager, collaborates with Internal Audit department to find gaps in process, procedure or policy; updates and trains staff.

  • Partners with Talent Development and Policy and Procedure departments to develop and maintain a robust training curriculum and ensures job aids and policies are easily accessible to all impacted staff, including the front line.

  • Develops and maintains prefunding review process to encompass review of processing and underwriting

  • Serves as a subject matter expert in RE related projects and works collaboratively with multiple departments throughout the project planning, development and implementation.

  • Provides consistent open communication with Sales department including regular meetings with BSM or other communication forum.

  • Manages System Administrators and ensures optimal performance of all RE systems leading to enhanced productivity and adherence to compliance with regulations; troubleshoots and researches system errors; determines root cause and provides corrective action.

  • Oversees the implementation, modification and testing of technology systems and applications related to various loan programs, reports and credit union operations, including drafting requests for program modifications necessary to meet new and changing product needs.

  • Monitors documentation of system requirements, workflows, system performance and integration of all RE systems.

  • Ensures quality service through frequent Member communications, analysis of Member feedback and data trends, and develops methods to improve overall service levels.

  • Provides guidance and direction to team members to meet or exceed the corporate Net Promoter Score Touch Point and Department Surveys.

  • Reports to ALCO on Real Estate Pipeline results and manages vendor relations as needed

  • Creates an environment of collaboration with staff, peers, internal and external customers.

  • Acquires and maintains knowledge of relevant product offerings and support policies in order to provide technically accurate, workable and cost-effective solutions

  • Reviews and responds to Audit Findings. Resolves Significant Findings and recommends actions to prevent future occurrences.

  • Evaluates resources and provides feedback to Management regarding Underwriting or prefunding/capacity including making manpower recommendations.

Education and/or Experience

Must have:

  • Seven to ten years real estate management experience, with experience managing underwriting or underwriting audit functions.

  • A demonstrated in-depth knowledge of FNMA and/or other investor underwriting guidelines.

  • A demonstrated in-depth knowledge of loan origination systems.

  • Experience with workflow optimization and continuous improvement processes

  • Proven ability to identify root cause of system issues & provide timely solutions

  • A thorough working knowledge of underwriting policies and guidelines

  • A thorough working knowledge of all related regulations

  • Experience with drafting and maintaining policies & procedures

  • Intermediate to advanced knowledge of Excel, Word and Outlook. Prime Alliance experience helpful.

  • Bachelor's Degree preferred.
