Main Responsibilities:

Scope

  • Managing the operations pertaining to the production of animal cell derived biological products

  • Knowledgeable of the current Code of the Federal Regulations (CFR's) and Current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP's)

  • Managing production operations, with emphasis on quality, safety and delivery of biologics to supply plan

  • Managing department budgets

  • Investigating and resolving problems, and identifying and implementing process improvements

  • Responsible for managing the training and development of personnel

  • The Senior Lead is responsible for interfacing and relationship development with support departments (QC, QA, Facilities, Development, etc.) to assure production goals are met

  • Responsible for establishing performance metrics in manufacturing area, sharing practices across areas and ownership of Tier 2 communications

Knowledge

  • Sufficient understanding of process, systems and equipment to troubleshoot problems and provide solutions to senior management

  • Expert knowledge of electronic quality systems

  • Possesses strong verbal and written communication skills

Problem Solving

  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exist

  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written oral, diagram or schedule form

Freedom to Act

  • Assignments are received in task and objective-oriented terms

  • Provides direction to subordinates based on general policies and management guidelines

  • Work is reviewed upon completion for adequacy in meeting objectives. Interprets and executes policies and procedures that typically affect subordinate organizational units

  • Recommends modifications to operating policies

Impact

  • Ensures that projects are completed on schedule and within budget

  • Erroneous decisions or recommendations or failure to complete assignments would normally result in serious delays to assigned projects resulting in considerable expenditure of additional time, human resources and funds

Interpersonal Communication

  • Functions as an advisor to a unit regarding tasks, projects, and operations

  • Frequent contacts with internal personnel and outside customer representatives at various management levels concerning operations or scheduling or specific phases of projects or contracts

  • Conducts briefings and participates in technical meetings for internal representatives concerning specifics operations

Supervisory/Management Skills

  • Accomplishes results through lower-level subordinate supervisors or through experienced exempt employees who exercise significant latitude and independence in their assignments

  • Often heads a centralized functional activity

  • Situational Leadership

Essential Requirements:

  • Minimum BS/BA degree required in biological sciences or biotechnology/life sciences appropriate experience in pilot or commercial biologics manufacture under cGMP
  • 10-12 years of work experience in pilot or commercial biologics manufacture under cGMP
  • Prior supervisory or management experience: 7 years preferred for Senior Manufacturing Manager
