Senior Manager, Product Development

As one of the global enterprise teams within American Express, Enterprise Digital & Analytics (EDA) works closely with colleagues in Global Consumer Services Group (GCSG), Global Corporate Payments (GCP) and Global Merchant and Network Services (GMNS) and across the Blue-Box to drive growth, margin expansion and marketplace differentiation and to accelerate our strategy forward. Within EDA, the Global Commercial and Merchant Analytics (GCMA) team is focused on leveraging our closed loop data advantage and big data capabilities to drive innovation and create differentiated value for merchants.

As part of GCMA, The Merchant Data Platforms team is responsible for driving strategy, development, maintenance, education, and roadmap for business insights tools leveraging merchant data and the platforms that house this data. The Product Owner will focus on leveraging Cornerstone's big data capabilities to power SMART (Self-Managed Analytical Tool), which enables merchant-facing teams to obtain presentation-ready, visualized business insights in minutes through a self-service experience.

This experienced product owner will play a pivotal role in working with global stakeholders to understand their strategic business objectives and needs relative to data and insights. S/he will collaborate closely with partners across Marketing, Client Management, Merchant Acquisition and Technologies to identify opportunities to advance the product experience and develop new functionality to engage our customers and further their success. S/he will translate requests into action by truly innovating new functionality and utilities from white space, helping to oversee the development lifecycle from concept to creation.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Expertise in understanding how Insights Products demonstrate value to merchants and enable great conversations

  • Synthesize learning and input from stakeholders and customers to drive the SMART platform forward through new Insights products, features and functions

  • Be the Voice of the Customer in maintaining and creating an intuitive, seamless user experience on the SMART platform

  • Serve as an Accountable Owner of the SMART product vision, working closely with Technology partners to shape the design and ensure high-quality, on-time delivery


  • 5 years of relevant Product Owner/Product Management experience, including demonstrated background in product development and customer oriented mindset

  • Strong communication skills required to successfully engage partners, create a collaborative environment and build consensus

  • Demonstrated ability to adapt to and lead through changing priorities

  • Excellent creative problem solving skills to navigate development challenges

  • Self-starter who is able to able to establish and leverage relationships to drive business goals and is highly comfortable with ambiguity

  • Experience working in an Agile development environment

  • Bachelor's Degree required

  • Advanced degree preferred

The Network Product Strategy team is responsible for developing & managing innovative new payment solutions, managing senior level forums and initiatives, and leading high impact strategy and competitive intelligence projects for the American Express Network. This Manager / Senior Manager would be responsible for defining and leading the business development for our new innovative bank payment solution as well as providing related product strategy support. Key Responsibilities: Business Development * Lead end-to-end business development including prospect identification, sales, contract negotiation, partner on-boarding and ongoing partner management * Partner closely with Client Managers and the Global Merchant Services organization to identify merchant opportunities, deploy products and design sales strategies * Collaborate with Legal, Finance and Operational Excellence to customize contracts, set pricing and manage new product approval processes * Lead and manage the relationship of merchants and processors who consume the products to drive growth * Conduct analytics on KPIs and monthly reporting to leverage insights for optimization and inform senior leaders of business performance Product strategy * Perform analysis and research to develop insights and solutions that tackle the highest strategic priorities for the Network Product & Operations team * Become an expert in bank payment landscape, monitoring activity and quickly drawing insights that require action * Engage key stakeholders and provide thought partnership * Present informed findings and recommendations to senior leaders * Collaborate closely with high powered internal team * Passion for payments and fintech.
