This position is with RJ Reynolds Tobacco Companythe second-largest U.S. tobacco company. The company's brands include Newport, Camel and Pall Mall.

SUMMARY

This position reports to the Director of Strategic Sourcing Indirect Materials and Services for R. J. Reynolds Tobacco Company (RJRTC) and is accountable for the end-to-end Procurement process within the assigned functional areas including Research & Development and Scientific & Regulatory Affairs (R&D and S&RA) for one or more operating companies of Reynolds American Inc. (RAI.) This Manager position will lead key strategic sourcing events and lead a team of buyers to manage the Procurement sourcing and supplier relationship management (SRM) activities supporting the assigned functional areas within RAI group.

DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Accountable to lead key sourcing events in addition to managing a team of Procurement buyers.

  • Manages a team of Procurement buyers facilitating the acquisition of materials and services in support of the Procurement sourcing activities within the assigned area of responsibility.

  • Provides leadership and direction to Procurement personnel responsible for the acquisition of materials and services in support of the sourcing requirements related to assigned business functions and categories.

  • Responsible for the leadership, coaching and development of personnel with focus on obtaining individual, departmental, and RAI performance goals.

  • Ensures personnel are adequately trained, developed, motivated, and held accountable for their performance; develops strategies to manage the knowledge base and ensure that the workforce is prepared for future challenges and requirements.

  • Evaluates staff requirements and plans/prepares for needs related to personnel development, training, attrition and succession planning, etc.

  • Ensures compliance with all corporate policies and procedures that are applicable to Procurement and the assigned functional areas along with oversight of outsourced supplier relationships.

  • Conducts business process analysis and prepares documentation, performs internal and external benchmarking efforts to ensure the development and implementation of Procurement best practices.

  • Evaluates Procurement processes, tools and applications to enhance the overall effectiveness of the Procurement organization supporting the RAI group.

  • Develops and implements metrics designed to measure organizational effectiveness and supply base performance, as well as the development of effective tracking and reporting against these metrics.

  • Acts as a liaison with heads of assigned functional areas and internal client departments to develop strategies which support their sourcing requirements for various scientific research projects and product submission timelines and objectives of the RAI group.

  • Maintain appropriate supply base and conducts periodic performance reviews with critical suppliers.

  • Support and contribute to Total Product Cost (TPC) and Enterprise Spend Management (ESM) programs and the identification of cost savings opportunities, effective project management, and tracking of realized savings from these initiatives.

  • Develops advanced sourcing strategies and leads the implementation across the assigned area of responsibility and the related categories and commodities and leads the deployment of sourcing strategies.

  • Manages and participates in leading cross-functional projects and initiatives designed to deliver step changes in the overall effectiveness and efficiencies of the Procurement organization at RJRTC.

  • Ensure that appropriate strategies are applied to mitigate risk through Supplier Risk Assessments and FDA Relevant Assessments of the supply base.

REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION:

Bachelor's Degree in Business, or Science related field and 12+ years of relevant work experience in the sourcing of varisous types of scientific studies and regulated product reaearch and development. Experience with processes related to FDA prodcut submissions preferred.

OR

Post Graduate Degree in Business, or Science related field and 9+ years of relevant work experience in the sourcing of various types of scientific studies and regulated product research. Experience with processes related to FDA product submissions preferred.

OR

MBA preferred with less than 8 years relevant experience

EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum 8+ years sourcing experience, relevant scientific knowledge and experience and related education and experience

  • Demonstrated ability to work as a value-added team member

  • Demontrated project management experience

  • Knowledge of RAI Operating Companies and (R&D and S&RA) related regulated processes and strategies

Job Summary: The Senior Manager, Validation Compliance manages the validation processes, policies, execution protocols and guidelines for adherence across RAI Operating Companies. The Incumbent is responsible to lead/manage standardization, develop framework and processes for validation-relevant elements and lead/manage key validation initiatives to prepare Operating Companies for compliance. This role is responsible to manage change control for new regulations, oversee contractor/consultant deliverables and assess consultant staffing requirements and workload distribution; review deliverables for new and existing validation-relevant systems; and perform audits of executed validation protocols to ensure compliance with Good Documentation Practices and other validation-specific documentation requirements. The Incumbent will manage and escalate validation-related issues, as appropriate, and effectively communicate validation strategy and framework; develop, maintain and deliver validation training and provide metrics for business reporting. This role serves as validation project SME and back-up validation SME to present validation framework during FDA inspections. This requires excellent rapport with all business partners and effective communication skills.
