Purpose

The Senior Manager of Public Relations will drive internal and external communications for Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Oklahoma. This position is responsible for creating, implementing and managing strategic internal communications programs that will enhance and amplify the company's culture, values and priorities. In addition, the position will work with Blue Cross and Blue Shield's government relations team, strategy team, and other business units to develop, coordinate and implement public and media relations strategies and programs for the division, in cooperation with the corporate media and public relations department.

The Senior Manager will produce or supervise production of new content and content updates for electronic communications, social media channels, and the public Web site targeting members and health care provider audiences. In addition, the position will provide support for executive communications and preparing materials (i.e. talking points and presentations). Finally the Senior Manager will monitor media coverage and actively pursue opportunities for external communication through the media; produce or supervise production of press releases, special publications and advertorials.

Required Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor degree and 8 years' experience in public relations, advertising, promotional or technical writing, or communications field OR 11 years' experience in public relations, advertising, promotional/technical writing, or communications field.

  • 3 years managerial experience.

  • Health care experience and knowledge of managed care products.

  • Experience presenting to upper management or executives.

  • Experience influencing the decision making process.

  • Experience handling situations with political appropriateness and sensitivity.

  • Written and oral communications skills to develop and sustain internal and external work relationships, develop and review communications materials for external audiences.

  • Experience in developing and implementing strategic planning.

  • Project management experience including leading and monitoring projects

Preferred Job Qualifications

  • Exceptional collaborative skills and experience working in team-based environment

  • Experience in and knowledge of advertising and public relations principles.

  • Experience in developing communications to lawmakers, the public and the media to advance the company's legislative agenda

  • Strong news sense with an understanding of the needs of various media outlets; and ability to develop and cultivate relationships with reporters and editors

This position will be based in Tulsa or Oklahoma City.

Relocation will not be provided for this position.
