Senior Manager of Audience Development

Hearst Newspapers/SF Chronicle is looking for an experienced consumer marketing professional to manage and grow its subscription-based sales operation in the San Francisco Bay area. What You'll Do

  • Kiosk and event sales and telemarketing

  • Manages and responsible for all circulation home delivery sales and retention functions

  • Meet or exceed budgeted sales goals as tied to circulation volume

  • Seek out and direct new customer segments and sales opportunities, initiating action plan to advance and procure new business for the company

  • Design programs targeting specific segments of the market based on optimal performance and return on investment according to advertiser desirability

  • Lead new B2B digital content licensing and corporate subscription program

  • Work cross-departmentally to identify new sales opportunities

  • Identify new online programs to support sustainable growth of entire portfolio of products

  • Strategically transition from low-performing start sources to new business growth opportunities

  • Participate on intra and inter departmental marketing task forces

  • Develop and manager budget for sales and retention

  • Evaluate existing and emerging technology for strategic opportunities and tactical functions

  • Oversee the development of a comprehensive retention/loyalty program, with emphasis on core customer recognition

  • Develop and manage a customer membership program

  • Analyze all customer touch points and review/revise promotional messaging to properly position the value of being a customer

  • Work with home delivery to ensure service levels meet goals; develop outreach program for customers that experience chronic service issues

  • Oversee all sales and retention reporting

  • All other tasks as requested by senior management

Required knowledge/experience:

  • Experience managing a B2C sales operation in a competitive market

  • Five to ten years of consumer marketing experience, preferably in an online and offline subscription-based environment

  • Experience supporting a comprehensive customer retention strategy

  • Ability to make oral presentations

  • Four-year degree in Marketing, Business or related consumer marketing experience

  • B2B sales experience a plus

  • Managing projects that drive efficiencies to the sales operation

Essential Skills:

  • Develop sales strategies, tactics, and techniques based on the feedback of customers and the market environment

  • Focus selling message on needs of the customer

  • Able to manage effectively a cross-functional team

  • Experience in developing a sales strategies and performance metrics

  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills

  • Leadership ability, entrepreneurial attitude

  • Strong computer skills using Microsoft Office

  • Strong training and presentation skills

  • Excellent negotiation and sales skills

  • Able to work under pressure
