Position Summary

National Audubon Society's mid-level giving program, the Great Egret Society, was established in 2018. Since then, it has grown to almost 10,000 members and $6.8M in annual income. The Senior Manager will oversee the strategy, planning and execution of the mid-level program, including solicitations and stewardship. Their role will be key to unlocking the full potential of these valuable donors, by building strong donor relationships, conveying the challenges birds face, and the critical role our Great Egret Society members play in protecting the birds they love. Ultimately this will drive increased donor retention, attract new mid-level donors and grow the overall program.

This position will report to the Senior Director, Direct Response Marketing, and will supervise staff and vendors.

The position is a hybrid position based in Audubon's New York, NY or Washington, DC office.

Compensation:

Salary range based on geo-differentials:

  • $105,000-$120,000/year = D.C.

  • $115,000-$130,000/year = NYC (not Oyster Bay)

Additional Job Description

Essential Functions

  • Identify new initiatives to grow the mid-level giving program and spearhead efforts to bring plans to fruition.

  • Oversee donor care, providing leadership and direction for the Senior Coordinator, ensuring mid-level donors receive high-quality and timely donor care via their preferred channel.

  • Strategize and execute direct marketing campaigns to help achieve the program's strategic and revenue goals. Work with outside vendors on the execution of direct response campaigns (from strategy, audience logic and segmentation, data output, creative development, and production), ensuring jobs go out on time and on budget.

  • Work with the Director, Digital Fundraising & Engagement on digital strategies targeting mid-level donors.

  • Monitor campaign results and ensure accuracy in reporting.

  • Lead the execution of our Donor Insight Panel and use insights to optimize the program.

  • Lead on developing a Great Egret Society brand and tone of voice. Strategize ways to elevate the visibility of the Great Egret Society as an Audubon giving circle to supporters.

  • Develop and execute donor engagement and cultivation calendar including organizing special calls, events or invitations for mid-level audience as needed.

  • Identify donors for upgrade to mid-level program working with internal and external analytic and modeling resources.

  • Work with Development Operations on the qualification and movement of donors between mid-level and major gifts.

  • Work closely with Development on the cultivation and solicitation of "transitional" and planned giving donors.

  • Work across teams, including Development Operations, IT and Finance Operations, to identify and resolve data issues and maintain good data hygiene.

  • Input into the development of the budget and track expenses, and work Senior Director to ensure revenue goals are met.

  • Work cross departmentally on Audubon content that aligns with Direct Response's case for engagement for use in the mid-level program.

  • Manage contract renewals for mid-level vendors.

  • Supervise the Senior Coordinator, providing training, support and guidance as needed.

  • Other job-related duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in communications, marketing, or a closely related field preferred. Minimum seven years' experience working in direct marketing, philanthropy or development. An equivalent combination of education and experience will also be also considered.

  • Experience developing and implementing mid-level giving strategy is essential.

  • Experience managing multiple projects with varying deadlines.

  • Customer service or donor care experience is preferred. Must be able to build strong rapport with donors regardless of giving level or satisfaction with the organization.

  • Budget and reporting experience a plus.

  • Must have excellent problem solving skills.

  • Experience managing relationships with external partners and internal stakeholders.

  • Experienced in Salesforce and Every Action.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Experience managing, mentoring, and developing staff.

  • Previous non-profit experience preferred.

  • Commitment to the mission and values of the National Audubon Society.

  • Commitment to further Audubon's efforts to create a more equitable, diverse, and inclusive environment.

  • An interest in conservation, birds and/or birding not required but strongly preferred.
