Job Summary:
At Caterpillar's East Peoria, IL facility, we manufacture and assemble Track Type Tractors. In this role as a Senior Manager Manufacturing Engineering, you will report to the Director Manufacturing Operations and will be primarily responsible for coordingating the development and implementation of systems starting with the manufacturability of prime product at concept / design through the various assembly process to shipment of product. This includes facility design, construction, and maintenance activities as well as the planning, developing, and implementing systems for new lean assembly processes. As a member of the Maintenance Support team, you will need to have a growth mindset, promote continuous improvement, and help build a defect-free culture. What you will do:
Works directly with the Operations Manager providing manufacturing expertise in: manufacturing, assembly, materials & logistics, planning support, project management methodology/processes/tools, and NPI.
Plant Engineering
Interacts with all manufacturing managers, engineering managers, product managers, and facility managers. Responsible for the tool room, which maintains all current production tooling and builds tooling for new product introductions. Develops all programming for new machines, processes and products. Coordinates the programming/tooling aspects for NPI projects. Also responsible for gauging development and use. Cost effectively manages all perishable and durable tooling and fixtures.
Heat Treat & Met Lab
Development (CPPD) methodology and provides the required support resources. Also supports corporate initiatives such as 6 Sigma, Lean Manufacturing, certification, etc.

Compares and contrasts alternative approaches and tools for capacity planning.
Develops estimates and costs for incremental capacity requirements.
Translates demand forecasts into production and capacity requirements.
Lean Manufacturing: Knowledge of the philosophy, principles and implementation approaches of lean manufacturing; ability to integrate and implement lean manufacturing philosophy into existing production and management processes.
Level Expert:
Defines and executes a strategic lean implementation plan.
Mentors others on the organizational and cultural transformation needed for effective lean implementation.
Creates training programs for the approaches to developing and executing a lean.
Leads discussions on the history and evolution of lean manufacturing; cites successes and failures.
Establishes and monitors benchmarks for measuring effectiveness of lean.
Oversees the implementation of mechanisms for sustaining a culture for lean.
