Role Overview:

Vectara is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Manager of Machine Learning to lead our dynamic team of machine learning experts. In this role, you will play a crucial part in shaping the vision and strategy for our machine learning initiatives, while also providing technical mentorship and guidance to our talented ML team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in modern machine learning, information retrieval (IR), generative AI, and natural language processing (NLP), with a proven track record of conducting research within an industry context.

Responsibilities:

• Lead and oversee the development and execution of machine learning projects in alignment with the company's strategic goals.

• Collaborate closely with the executive team to define and implement the company's machine learning vision and roadmap.

• Provide technical mentorship and guidance to members of the ML team, fostering a culture of innovation and excellence.

• Manage the day-to-day operations of the machine learning team, including resource allocation, project prioritization, and performance management.

• Stay abreast of the latest advancements in machine learning technologies and methodologies, and drive their adoption within the organization.

• Work closely with cross-functional teams, including engineering, product management, and data science, to ensure seamless integration of machine learning solutions into our products and services.

Qualifications:

• Seeking a player/coach with at least 3 years of management experience.

• 3+ years of experience with NLP.

• PhD or equivalent experience in computer science, machine learning, or a related field.

• Demonstrated expertise in modern machine learning techniques, with a focus on information retrieval, deep learning, generative AI and and/or natural language processing.

• Proven track record of conducting research in an industry context, with tangible outcomes and impact.

• Strong leadership and management skills, with prior experience managing high-performing technical teams.

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams.

• Experience with large-scale software systems or search systems is a plus.

• Commitment to working on-site at the Palo Alto office at least three days per week, with a preference for four days.
