OVERVIEW:

Year Up is seeking a Senior Manager of Internal Communications to report to the Senior Director and be responsible for the execution of internal communications and support change management within the organization. The Senior Manager of Internal Communications must have experience either working within a larger company or at an agency that served larger companies, on a team driving change management including business, structural and personnel changes.

The Senior Manager of Internal Communications will support the Senior Director and subject matter experts across the organization to implement an internal communications strategy that is aligned with Year Up's business impact strategy to ensure the achievement of organizational goals. More specifically, this function will work with Year Up's Strategy Office to embed internal communications within the overall organizational strategy and build/maintain community across Year Up as well as increase employee engagement.

The Senior Manager of Internal Communications will work directly with the Senior Director to update, create and/or scale back different communications channels.

To be successful in this role, candidates must have exceptional writing skills with the ability to work in a diverse voice and be well versed in working with different types of leaders. You must understand how to write to a large audience while still holding the voice of the speaker. Flexibility in writing and editing will be crucial to the success of this role.

You understand the role of internal communications in effective change management and how to proactively communicate during challenging times to maintain credibility and trust.

You are a strong communicator and active listener who knows how to empathize and problem solve. You have excellent judgment and can anticipate/address potential concerns from stakeholders in a positive and forward-thinking way. You are comfortable facing challenges and thrive in a collaborative environment, working across teams to achieve the best outcomes. You have a passion for meaningful work and social justice and will be excited and prepared to engage with Year Up's mission and constituents.

In keeping with Year Up's values, the Senior Manager of Internal Communications will also have the opportunity to interact with students as coach, group facilitator, and advocate, participating in creating and sustaining a positive educational environment, with trust among students, faculty and site leaders.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Internal Communications

  • Writing on behalf of leadership

  • Engage with internal stakeholders and subject matter experts

  • Manage day-to-day tasks to drive employee engagement and achieve the organization's goals, as outlined in an approved communications plan and strategy

  • Manage implementation of Year Up's channel and content strategy

  • Liaise with internal stakeholders and experts to ensure all communications are impactful, accurate and timely

  • Analyze data and support the development of best practices/KPIs to enable assessment of and continuous improvement of the internal communications function, tools, collateral, etc.

  • Execute processes and tools to continually improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the internal communications function

  • Activate tactics to drive positive change and cultivate a culture of accountability and support at Year Up

National Team Member

  • Participate in community activities and events with students and staff

  • Attend National and cross-site meetings

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 3-5 years of internal/employee communications experience in a journalism, in-house or agency environment

  • Exceptional and flexible writing skills, in which you can write from the perspective of different voices

  • Strong presentation and oral communication skills and ability to communicate effectively with colleagues and business partners at all levels

  • Strong project management skills - including the ability to prioritize work in a disciplined and rigorous manner but equally exhibiting "big picture" thinking and attention to detail

  • Proven ability to execute critical communications plans, evidenced by successful outcomes from communications activities

  • A self-starter with a strong work ethic and the ability to prioritize, manage time effectively and get work done - meeting high standards and tight deadlines

  • Experience in change management principles, methodologies and tools.

  • Track record of working well with different types of leaders across a matrix organization.

  • Ability to bring ideas, concepts, and philosophies into writing in the CEO's "voice"

  • Fluency with relevant communications channels

  • Competence with key metrics and data analytics, to support the application of key learnings to influence internal communications strategies and decision making

  • A high degree of professionalism and sound judgment, with the ability to maintain confidentiality

  • Skilled at empowering and motivating others towards a common vision or goal

  • A passion for working with young adults, an unshakable belief in their potential, and a strong commitment to Year Up's mission

  • Understanding of the Opportunity Divide and its drivers

Salary Range: $75,000 - $95,000

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS:

  • Year Up has established salary ranges for each of our sites, which allows us to pay employees competitively, equitably and consistently in different geographic markets. For roles in which the location is listed as flexible, the range displayed reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position across all US locations.   • Vacation: Earn three weeks paid vacation in first year of employment; four weeks after initial year.

This is an exempt role (paid on a salaried basis).
