Job Summary:
The Senior Manager
Belonging to the EPC Grid Team and Reporting to the Grid EPC Director, the Senior Manager
The successful candidate will be a key member of the Project Leadership Team responsible for developing and managing Interconnection Agreements, multi-million-dollar Transmission Support Contracts, and ultimately achieving commercial operation, on budget and on time, of utility scale offshore wind farms, in close liaison with the Electrical Design Manager for grid compliance matters and plant test requirement.
In addition, the individual will be responsible for managing all Interconnection Processes as part of a Global Offshore Business with activities across the US. As such, the position will require supporting the Business across the entire pipeline of Projects at all stages of the development (from origination to construction), The position may require travelling to various locations in the US and overseas and during development, contracting and delivery of substantial packages the individual should be prepared to manage teams working at different project locations.
Key Responsibilities:
Responsible for implementing strategies and policies in Interconnection Process throughout the Offshore Business pipeline.
Responsible for overseeing and steering all Interconnection Process across the entire pipeline of Avangrid Offshore Business.
Responsible for existing infrastructure analysis, routing analysis, transmission availability screening when selecting a potential POI.
Responsible to coordinate the technical requirement for new interconnection requests
Responsible for the overall management of Avangrid Offshore interconnections within different ISOs, from feasibility to COD and Operation.
Responsible for the technical advisory services and strategic insights on energy and capacity markets, transmission analysis, congestion analysis, resource planning
Responsible for keeping the business updated on transmission development, key upgrades, opportunities in the ISO AGR Offshore operates
Responsible to participate in different working group, industry group as to best represent the Business and to maximize Avangrid Offshore industry presence.
Responsible leading discussions with the ISOs and transmission systems provider regarding Feasibility, Systems Impact and Facilities Studies as well Material Modification Determination and IA updates.
Lead the IA negotiation from a technical and support from commercial standpoint• Support the Electrical Design Managers to meet grid compliance, NERC compliance, etc.• Support the wind turbine selection process
Implement offshore standards, procedures, tools, best practices for large scale offshore windfarm, to be constructed across the USA, as well able to support international project if needed.
Provide key and strategic delivery advice, risk assessment and recommendations to the business.
Providing key knowledge, lessons learned and support to the packages throughout the whole life cycle of a project
Provide expert advice on appropriate bid levels / technical strategies / commercial strategies relative to projects to maximize value.
Provide key input in the preparation of investment dossiers for all funding requests for projects to secure investment support at best value.
Ensure all lessons learned regarding offshore delivery are captured and shared across the different offshore packages. Establish the right mechanisms for this process and ensuring teams and substantial package implement them to capture and enhance business value.
Skills and Requirements:
Degree and professional qualification in Electrical Engineering with emphasis in power systems.
Proven experience in the management of Interconnection Application in the US. Desirable experience with ISO and Eversource.
Proven experience in the management of Interconnection Agreements and Transmission Support Contracts.
Project Management experience.
Experience in managing direct employees.
Substantial experience in contracting, engineering design and delivery
IT literate with the ability to operate MS Office systems and other IT based project management software.
Flexible to travel to attend meetings and work at different project sites in the US as well as to Germany, France, Denmark, Spain, and England.
Relevant experience in offshore wind/renewable energy planning and design.
Expert knowledge of how Transmission System Operators and Transmission System Owners work, regarding interconnection application, market participation, ancillary services opportunities
Experience in managing high skilled technical teams of external contractors
Able to quantify technical risks in financial terms.
Able to interpret load flow results for large systems to extract usable information, technical and commercial
Able to review power systems studies
Familiar with standard power system software
Able to discuss power plant control strategies
Familiar with how different dynamic reactive compensation equipment work.
