Senior Manager, Executive and Corporate Compensation

This position is located in Boise, Idaho or Arlington, Texas

Position Purpose

Supports the strategic development, design, implementation, communication, and compliance of compensation programs to align with the Company's compensation philosophy and business objectives. This position will collaborate with cross functional teams primarily in HR and Corporate to identify, develop and deliver strategic compensation programs that meet and anticipate the internal needs of the organization while monitoring external trends in the marketplace.

Key Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Supports the design, administration, and monitoring of the Company's executive compensation programs including base, bonus and long-term incentives.

  • Manages the design of all elements of executive compensation including the preparation of proxy compensation tables. Establishes, communicates and leads projects and timelines. Directs, solicits and coordinates related information primarily from stakeholders in Tax, Legal, Loss Prevention, Benefits, and Payroll for inclusion in proxy tables. Researches, recommends and adopts best practices. Prepares all compensation tables, footnotes, performs complex audits and resolves discrepancies with various internal and external professionals. Provides work product to VP, Total Rewards, Senior Counsel and HR Executive.

  • Manages the design of short-term incentive bonus plans and other bonus rewards programs. Provides direction and analysis in plan design that enhances opportunities to achieve business objectives.

  • Researches strategic issues and recommends changes to compensation programs/philosophy as appropriate. Keeps abreast of best practices and continually reviews current compensation processes and procedures in order to provide guidance to management on the organization's response to changing trends within the marketplace.

  • Develops strong partnerships and provides counsel to HR and Business Management groups on job design, job documentation, FLSA exemptions, organizational design and restructures, job leveling guides and policy interpretation on compensation questions and concerns. Facilitates positive and proactive communications, coordination and consideration of business needs in order to achieve mutually effective outcomes in support of the business objectives. Combines internal data, stakeholder feedback and external competitive data to make decisions that impact employees and the business in a meaningful way.

  • Develops salary budgets, structure changes and compensation policies and procedures that ensure the achievement of equitable and competitive employee compensation.

  • Manages salary surveys vendors and develops internal market pricing tools to ensure proper alignment of jobs to competitive market data. Ensures participation in relevant salary surveys and research that allows the company to market price, develop and implement competitive salary structures in order to administer compensation practices, polices and guidelines.

  • Manages and organizes special projects as needed. Participates in task forces and special assignments as needed.

  • Ensures compensation programs comply with legal and other regulatory agencies.

Qualifications:

  • BA/BS degree, preferably with emphasis in HR, Accounting, Finance or General Business

  • CCP certification or course completion highly desired

  • Previous large public company compensation experience

  • 7+ year's compensation consulting

  • Demonstrated subject matter expert in compensation plan development

  • Experience in executive compensation, fixed and variable compensation plans, equity plans and total rewards programs

Skills and Background:

  • Demonstrated ability to apply compensation knowledge, philosophy, best practices and sound decision-making processes to current and proposed compensation programs.

  • In depth knowledge of tax, corporate finance, regulatory and accounting requirements in order to design Executive Compensation plans

  • Creative, analytical and results-oriented

  • Demonstrated ability to draw conclusions, themes and trends from data analysis and communicate results to high level officers

  • Collaborative leader that works to develop simple solutions based on business needs.

  • Strategic thinker and demonstrated knowledge and experience of competitive compensation strategy and practices is a must including executive compensation, bonus plan design, and market analysis.

  • Demonstrated capacity to identify issues in a timely manner, creatively design solutions and proactively implement strategies with a bias for flawless execution.

  • Expert in executive compensation elements/vehicles and various accounting and tax implications for both the company and employee

  • Thorough knowledge and experience of public company stock options/equity ownership and stock plan development

  • Advanced knowledge of SEC and IRS rules and regulations on executive compensation

  • Advanced knowledge of SOX requirements for controls and compliance

  • Self-starter with strong critical thinking and conceptual abilities; excellent project management skills.

  • Ability to thrive in a fast paced, high workload environment and effectively support and adjust to change and help others through change.

  • Must maintain confidentiality, sound judgment and independent decision making in problem solving and in developing alternative strategies.

  • Ability to deal with complex data in a demanding fast paced work environment. Focus on the detail and accuracy of analysis as well as the ability to see the bigger picture.

  • Ability to work under continual deadlines, time constraints and manage multiple projects with concurrent timelines.

  • Excellent communication skills; exhibit strong presence, verbal and written presentation skills, and ability to interact with multiple stakeholders, both inside and outside the organization.

  • Strong working knowledge of MS Office with advanced Excel and Access skills.

Preferred Skills & Qualifications:
  • Master's Degree, preferably with emphasis in HR, Accounting, Finance or General Business

  • Previous retail compensation in a publicly traded company

  • Experience with Oracle compensation modules or cloud based HR/Comp systems.
