Senior Manager, Engineering - Hybrid Cloud Fabric

Position Summary:

Lead the charge in GEICO's technological evolution! We are seeking a passionate and experienced Senior Manager to build and lead a team of talented engineers responsible for our multi-cloud, multi-cluster service mesh platform. You will be instrumental in driving the adoption and expansion of our service mesh, ensuring its stability, security, and performance across our hybrid cloud environment.

Responsibilities:

• Recruit, build, and mentor a high-performing team of service mesh engineers, fostering a collaborative and innovative environment focused on continuous improvement.

• Define and execute the team's vision and roadmap, aligning with GEICO's strategic goals for cloud adoption, application modernization, and microservices architecture.

• Oversee the design, implementation, and operation of the service mesh across multiple cloud environments and clusters, ensuring scalability, resilience, and efficient resource utilization.

• Manage and prioritize the team's backlog, ensuring timely delivery of key features and functionalities while maintaining alignment with business needs.

• Collaborate closely with security, operations, and development teams to integrate the service mesh into existing workflows and promote cross-functional collaboration.

• Develop and implement comprehensive monitoring, alerting, and incident response processes to ensure the health and stability of the service mesh.

• Advocate for the service mesh within the organization, showcasing its value and driving adoption across various teams and projects.

• Foster strong partnerships with networking, SD-WAN, data center engineering, and SRE teams to ensure the successful operation of the service mesh within GEICO's hybrid environment.

• Collaborate with SREs to establish clear SLOs and error budgets for the service mesh, driving continuous improvement in reliability and performance.

Qualifications:

• Technical leadership: Proven experience in building and leading high-performing engineering teams, fostering a culture of innovation and collaboration.

• Service mesh knowledge: Strong understanding of service mesh concepts, technologies, and best practices, particularly with Istio and related tools.

• Kubernetes and containers: Extensive experience with Kubernetes and container orchestration platforms, understanding their role in microservices architecture.

• Hybrid cloud experience: Familiarity with hybrid cloud environments and the challenges associated with managing and operating a service mesh across multiple platforms.

• Strategic thinking: Ability to develop and articulate a clear vision for the service mesh team, aligning with GEICO's overall technology strategy and business goals.

• Communication and collaboration: Excellent communication skills to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders and promote the value of the service mesh within the organization.

Experience:

• 10+ years of professional experience in software engineering, DevOps, or related fields.

• 5+ years of experience in technical leadership or management roles.

• 3+ years of experience with service mesh technologies and Kubernetes.

• Proven track record of building and leading high-performing engineering teams.

• Experience managing complex technical projects and delivering successful outcomes.

Annual Salary

$120,000.00 - $261,500.00

The above annual salary range is a general guideline. Multiple factors are taken into consideration to arrive at the final hourly rate/ annual salary to be offered to the selected candidate. Factors include, but are not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the role, the selected candidate's work experience, education and training, the work location as well as market and business considerations.
