Description:

As the leader of a passionate and accomplished team, you will be responsible for the continued growth, including recruitment and hiring, performance reviews, program assignment, and career development. You will be heavily involved in supporting program planning and execution, defining technical direction and standards, and driving the strategic growth in design, development and test of propulsion valves, fluid system components, and other mechanical systems for a variety of liquid rocket engines. This position will directly impact the history of space exploration and will require your dedicated commitment and detailed attention towards safe and repeatable spaceflight.

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for complete employee lifecycle, including hiring, performance management, task/project assignment, training and career development.

  • Responsible for technical processes, best practices, and tool development for valves and mechanisms, including process tailoring and risk assessments for program needs

  • Drive the initiation and development of close working relationships with multiple programs and ensure proper planning and support

  • Assure compliance with company and business unit plans, processes and procedures

  • Responsible for being a non-advocate, Subject Matter Expert (SME) for programs during reviews and anomaly investigations

  • Support larger Engines Design Office initiatives to continue supporting Blue Origin growth

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of a B.S. degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering and 10+ years of mechanical design experience in a fluids-related domain

  • Demonstrated ability to lead teams

  • Ability to be self-directed and balance several tasks simultaneously

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Working knowledge of components such as regulators, check valves, pneumatic/EMA/hydraulic valves, actuators and other fluid system components

  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

Desired:

  • Experience with anomaly investigations

  • Knowledge of systems engineering and configuration management practices

  • Experience in project planning and successful execution of projects to cost and schedule targets

  • Working knowledge of instrumentation including pressure transducers, thermocouples and accelerometers

  • Working knowledge of a variety of rocket propellants including cryogenic propellants

You will share in the team's impact on all aspects of fluid systems and fluid system component design. This position will directly impact the history of space exploration and will require your dedicated commitment and detailed attention towards safe and repeatable spaceflight. Responsibilities: * Responsibility for structural dynamics analysis of separation / jettison events of primary structures * Strength assessment for primary and secondary structures * Provide expert guidance on structural integrity requirements for a complex launch vehicle * Structural design consultation and structural guidance with designers * Mentoring junior analysts * Improving enterprise analysis capabilities such as creating process automation tools for model creation, strength checks, and analysis report generation * Provide expert guidance on system/part development and trade studies regarding structural integrity * Identification of opportunities for safety improvements and weight savings * Maintain and report on activity schedule and technical status Qualifications: * Minimum of a B.S. degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering * 8+ years of experience with the structural analysis of pressurized components and systems including tubing/piping, pressure vessels, and valves * Mastery of FEA analysis tools (LS-Dyna or Abaqus preferred) and the validation of structural analysis models * Knowledge of 3D CAD programs (Creo preferred) * Expert level experience with a wide variety of manufacturing methods, material selection, testing, characterization & allowables development * Proficient at analyzing components in high vibration environments * Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum. Desired: * Mastery of large, complex explicit dynamic analysis models * Very proficient with one or more of the following analysis codes: Abaqus, LS-Dyna, Adams, Nastran, Ansys, Optistruct * Mastery of classical hand calculations for stress analysis based on common aerospace reference materials (Shigley, Bruhn, Roark etc.) * Experience with fatigue analysis and linear-elastic fracture mechanics (hand calculations, NASGRO, etc.) * Demonstrated process automation experience using scripting (VBA, Matlab, Python, FORTRAN, etc.) Blue Origin offers a phenomenal work environment and awesome culture with competitive compensation, benefits, 401K, and relocation.
