Senior Manager Device Engineering & DevelopmentThe Senior Manager of Device Engineering & Development is responsible for managing thepeople and processes that facilitate the successful design, integration, technical approval (TA)and delivery of devices/chipsets/modems/modules and their technology capabilities and relatedservice features for DISHs 5G Enterprise, Wholesale, MNO/MVNO and roaming efforts. DISHsvision for its 5G SA network is to utilize O-RAN and cloud-native core technologies operating ona flexible and open compute platform. A Senior Manager of Device Engineering & Developmentwill be responsible for one or more device ecosystem segments (e.g. Android/iOS/DataModules, CPEs etc.) and ensuring that their devices, chipsets and network features andtechnologies come together in support of this vision, with validated features and verifiedperformance against quality assurance metrics.Essential Functions and Responsibilities for a Senior Manager Device Engineering Attract, lead, grow, and retain a world-class team of talented device engineers andtechnicians and manage their day-to-day activities while planning for their long-termsuccesses; own what success looks like.
Lead your team to consistently and repeatedly deliver on engineering level featuretesting and configurations of all new User Equipment (UE) for DISHs retail andwholesale MNO/MVNO channels. Ensure the Device/Network organization consistentlydelivers UE Technical Acceptance (TA) to device OEMs with timeliness and quality.
Collaborate and guide the key industry partners such as UE OEMs, chipset vendors,RAN/CORE vendors, and test equipment vendors to drive and enhance theenvironment, process, tools, and plans with the goal of establishing trusted relationshipsthat result in the most efficient and effective system for device validation/verification andassociated TA deliveries.
Be accountable for your team's contributions to hardware/software requirements for UEdevices and own the successful ongoing communications with Device OEMs, vendors,internal engineering and customer product stakeholders.
Be responsible with an ownership mentality for setting schedules and enabling yourteam to best triage activities, workloads and schedules in both lab and field testenvironments.
Collaborate with key stakeholder colleagues from device technology, roadmap, productmanagement and network technology planning and engineering teams to continuouslydeliver ongoing successful Interoperability Development Testing (IODT), InteroperabilityTesting (IOT), Field Interoperability (FIT), and subsequent integrations all with anownership mentality.
Collaborate with post device launch quality assurance (QA) teams in troubleshooting androot cause analysis of device issues in the field and facilitate subsequent correctiveaction recommendations to vendors.
With automation always top of mind, help process owners develop and continuouslyimprove systems and tools for effective task execution by your team.Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in engineering or computer science or related degree
10+ years of experience working directly with a major wireless mobility device OEM andassociated chipset providers and RAN/CORE vendors in bringing commercial devicesand networks to market.
Demonstrated experience managing a team and demonstrated leadership ofcross-functional teams.
Familiarity with 3GPP & GSMA standards and associated 4G/5G Radio AccessNetworking technologies. Proficiency with 4G/5G device services (e.g.IMS/SMS/RCS/eUICC/SIM/OTA-DM/VoLTE/VoNR/VoWiFi/e911/RTT/CMAS) andassociated device chipset and core networking architectures and technologies.
Demonstrated skills and a passion for mentorship, relationship building, collaborationand team development.
An enthusiastic, clear communicator.
Experience in a high-availability, fast-paced environment.
Strong customer service focus and experience working with operations.
Proven problem solving, organization and verbal and written communication skills areessential.
Ability to influence thinking or gain acceptance of others in sensitive situations.General Requirements:
