Purpose:
The Senior Manager, Customs is responsible for leading an internal team and providing guidance and expertise with international trade compliance matters for the adidas US market. This role has direct responsibility for overseeing both import and export compliance with US import and export trade laws. This individual has functional responsibility to support adidas operations and implementation of trade compliance policies and procedures consistent with US laws and best practices.
Key Responsibilities:
Actively manages the Customs compliance import/export program for the US market, including developing, maintaining, and implementing trade and Customs controls policies and procedures with U.S. import and export trade laws and regulations.
Directly supervises, mentors, develops, and assists import and export team members in day-to-day import and export activities.
Maintains close relationship with the Customs Broker and monitors activities to ensure all directives are followed.
Communicates directly with government agencies as needed with respect to compliance activities, including US Customs & Border Protection (CBP), Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Fish & Wildlife Service (FWS), US Dept of Commerce, Bureau of Industry & Security (BIS), US Census Bureau, etc.
Collects and interprets information/data required to support adidas in the event of an external audit on any process related to import or export activities.
Monitors the ACE portal for notifications from CBP. Point of contact for CBP regarding import information/compliance (ex. CF 28's, 29's and any other related requested or notifications).
Serves as point of contact for export reporting and/or inquiries by the US Census Bureau.
Serves as the resource for internal/external business partners, providing import and export trade and compliance information.
Facilitates and monitors the participation in the Customs Trade Partnership Against Terrorism (CTPAT) program, maintain best practices and procedures with CBP and adidas 3rd party validation parties.
Responsible for activities related to the company's participation in the Customs Trade Compliance program (formally known as the Importer Self-Assessment Program).
Responsible for the operational adherence and claims to CBP on the use of free trade agreements
Oversees timely and accurate maintenance of the Customs Compliance Manuals and other supporting procedures and SOP's.
Collaborates with internal and external stakeholders to drive standardization of Customs processes. Assists in driving standardization of IT connectivity with Customs broker.
Ensures all permits/ registrations related to import activities are maintained and updated as needed.
Works with and supports the team responsible for our Foreign Trade Zones.
Stays up to date and knowledgeable on current rules and regulations affecting import and export operations for adidas.

Internally: Global Customs, Distribution, Finance, Legal, Logistics, Procurement
Externally: CBP and Other Government Agencies, Outside Counsel, Custom Broker, Factories, Liaison Offices, Freight Forwarders
Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
Extensive knowledge of current Customs regulations and ability to stay current, analyze and apply any necessary regulatory changes
Excellent communication skills with al levels in a cross-cultural environment, both written and oral in English.

Requisite Education and Experience / Minimum Qualifications:
Undergraduate degree or combination of degree and related work experience; graduate degree a plus
5 to 10 years of experience in Customs Operations
Customs Broker License required
Certified Customs Specialist preferred
