  • What will you do at Ciena as a Senior Manager - Content Development?

Are you the dynamic and versatile Senior Manager who will join the Ciena Product Documentation Development organization?

Can you contribute and lead the evolution, development, and maintenance of the Ciena's Technical Publications that are key to the business?

If so we are looking for a Senior Manager to lead across multiple information development teams applying industry best practices to deliver quality technical publications that improve and modernize our customer experience.

Lead, encourage and empower a team of cross-portfolio technical content development leads and content developers to meet teamwork you're doing including prioritization across all product platforms.

The Responsibilities:


  • Lead and encourage multiple information development teams using industry standard methodologies and trends; topic-based DITA authoring methodology, processes, and tools (Framemaker, AEM, TMS, etc )

  • Lead and encourage teams in executing transformation initiatives that improve user experience in consuming technical content on multiple outputs and platforms that align with industry standard methodologies and trends.

  • Understand, rationalize, prioritize, and execute requests against the company, product, and objectives while leading an end-to-end content development process in a team of hard-working individuals in a dynamic multi-functional packet optical, routing/switching and network management development team environment across global R&D locations.

  • Execute strategies for improving document efficiencies and customer documentation experience to ensure scalability, resiliency, cost-effectiveness, and maintainability.


  • Facilitate communication across multiple teams and partners, prioritize according to effort and company goals.

  • Collaborate with content team leads to develop team, workload, priorities, and project status reporting at various multi-functional coordinated Project Team (CPT) meetings.

  • Coach, mentor, nurture and empower your content development team to develop high-quality single-source technical content, publish on time on various output platforms and all within budget.

Are you right for this role with these qualifications?

  • 10+ years of experience in the telecom industry (optical, packet, routing, switching & network management);

  • Minimum of 5 years in information development and publishing, working with different technologies and multiple concurrent product lines;

  • Demonstrable experience in executing various content development methodologies and workflow tools in DITA topic-based authoring methodology, Adobe Structured FrameMaker, AEM CCMS and Translation Management Systems (TMS);

  • Demonstrable experience with Agile development processes, including development of customer documentation in an Agile R&D environment across multiple geographical locations;

  • Demonstrable ability to deliver sophisticated technology solutions requiring coordination across multiple content development and infrastructure teams;

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or equivalent.
