How will you make an impact?

The Cell Therapy application group is looking for an exceptional person who is proficient in a variety of cell biology related techniques, from isolation to engineering, expansion to analysis. We are looking for someone dedicated to make a positive impact in Cell therapy by developing new innovative cell therapy manufacturing systems that will enable our customers to develop the therapies of tomorrow and make them accessible to all. We are looking for an individual who is talented scientifically, has extensive biological experience, has a strong work ethic a sense of urgency and has the ability to manage a multidisciplinary team and manage a large number of external collaborations. This position requires excellent organizational skills, independence, enthusiasm and the ability to work in a highly collaborative environment.

What will you do?

  • Lead a group of application scientists to develop workflow solutions related to cell therapy manufacturing.

  • Integrate platforms and reagents into an automated solution, working closely with process and software engineers

  • Manage project scope, budget and schedule to achieve timely completion of project deliverables.

  • Give customer presentations and manage collaborations at a technical level

  • Develop Scale up protocol for different bioreactors (Wave, Spinners, others)

  • Launch product using a gated approach

  • Support process transfer to customers

  • Author technical documents and PPT presentation

How will you get here?

  • Demonstrated experience with the development of bio-processes for cell therapy preferred.

  • Experience in Design of Experiments and statistical analysis.

  • Experience with analytical techniques preferred.

  • Ability to work independently in a fast paced team environment, meet deadlines, prioritize work across multiple projects.

  • Self-starter with strong work ethic.

  • Must have excellent organizational, attention to detail, verbal and written communication skills.

  • Proven ability to identify strategic opportunities, set aggressive objectives, and drive key business priorities.

  • Willingness to do what needs to be done in a dynamic environment

  • Experience developing and presentation materials for sales training, customer interaction and executive presentations.

Education Requirements

  • Ph.D. or equivalent and 5- 6 years of experience or B.S. with at least 10+ years of relevant experience, preferably in industrial setting.

Location and Division Specifics The Cell & Gene Therapy R&D team focuses on developing and improving products and workflows to meet customers' needs. Working together with R&D teams from other disciplines ensures an energetic and fast paced environment to drive collaboration and scientific curiosity. How will you make an impact? This position requires a talented and motivated scientist to support cell and gene therapy product development initiatives. The role will focus on building cell and gene therapy relevant workflows integrating new cell processing and gene delivery platforms. Work includes both ex vivo and in vivo gene delivery and genetic engineering of primary T cells, NK cells and hematopoietic stem cells with viral and non-viral platforms. The ideal candidate will also have knowledge and experience in closed automated systems, cell therapy process development and clinical manufacturing. Additionally, it is expected that this individual will be able to work collaboratively with other scientists and cross-functional project team members including engineers, product management, marketing and commercial team to support the development and launch of new products. What will you do? * Critically design, plan and independently execute experiments, * Isolation, expansion and maintenance of human immune cells including T cells, NK cells and other relevant cell types * Execute experiments using automated cell therapy instrument platforms * Optimize ex vivo gene delivery protocols to maximize gene editing in immune cells and stem cells * Some in vivo gene delivery into mouse models with viral vectors * Perform analytical assays including identity and potency assays as well as complex multi-color flow cytometry experiments to characterize and validate cell types of interest * Work collaboratively with other R&D colleagues and product application scientist to integrate newly developed cell processing and gene delivery platforms to develop closed automated workflows * Actively working with cross functional team to identify new cell and gene therapy product and workflow automation opportunities * Build and maintain good lab notebooks, protocols and SOPs How will you get here? * Ph. D in cell biology, immunology or relevant life sciences field with 1-2 years or Masters with 3-5 years of relevant industry experience * 3+ years of immune cells and at least 1-2 years of cell therapy instrument platform is required. * Experience in viral or non-viral genetic modification is preferred. * Extensive cell analysis and characterization assay experience especially with immune cells and stem cells with minimum 2 years multicolor flow cytometry * Demonstrate a sense of urgency with a can-do attitude to take on new tasks * Self-starter with strong work ethic and ability to work independently in a fast-paced team environment, * Must have excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, verbal and written communication * Highly developed presentation skills to communicate results and needs to both internal and external team members At Thermo Fisher Scientific, each one of our 75,000 extraordinary minds have a unique story to tell.
