Our Opportunity:

The Controller's Department is responsible for corporate-wide functional expertise in the areas of Accounting Policy, Corporate Accounting, Consolidation of Financial Results, Taxation, and Financial Reporting to the Board of Directors, Executive Committee, SEC, and FRB

We are looking for an Accounting Policy Senior Manager to support the Company in analyzing complex accounting issues, monitoring and implementing new accounting standards, and assisting and supporting the teams responsible for Financial and Regulatory Reporting in their preparation and review of reports.

What you'll do:

  • Actively engage in analyzing diverse, unclear, and challenging areas of accounting related to non-routine and/or significant transactions such as revenue recognition, impairment, leasing, business acquisition or divestitures, fair value and investment securities, consolidations, internally developed software, and stock-based compensation

  • Perform technical accounting research and synthesize judgments or analysis in written form, obtain buy-in from stakeholders, which could include members of senior management, and implement new processes and/or policies, as needed

  • Monitor emerging accounting standards and present updates or implications though written or oral communications to diverse audiences

  • Engage in special projects to further initiatives within the Controller's Department and in various business units

  • Participate in industry associations and working groups following developments in and the application of US GAAP specific to the industry

  • Train internal teams on new or existing US GAAP topics relevant to the Company

What you have:

  • Eight to ten years of accounting experience, including at least five years of that time in either public accounting or an accounting policy role

  • CPA license required

  • Extensive knowledge of US GAAP

  • Possess creativity and a high degree of curiosity with a deep desire to develop knowledge of the company, technical accounting, and accounting processes

  • Ability to prioritize concurrent long-term projects through demonstrated internal drive and motivation

  • High degree of focus and self-challenge that leads to very high quality and comprehensive analyses and work product

  • Ability to build productive relationships and work in cross-functional teams

  • Strong oral and written communication skills demonstrated in many different forums and with various audiences

  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel

  • Financial services industry preferred

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting; Post-graduate work preferred

Our Opportunity: Corporate Vendor Management (CVM) at Charles Schwab & Co. is responsible for implementing a firm-wide, end-to-end vendor management process to maximize vendor performance and value. CVM is responsible for establishing and supporting a firm-wide Vendor Management Program to support business owners in meeting their objectives and satisfying Schwab's client needs through appropriate and strategic use of third parties. The program defines the process and provides a set of procedural standards for identifying, prioritizing and controlling vendor-related risk and performance levels, and reporting requirements for measurability and improvement. There are five phases to the vendor management program, this role is specific to Vendor Monitoring and Oversight and Off-Boarding phases. What you'll do: As a Senior Manager of Vendor Monitoring and Oversight, you will be responsible for management and oversight of the implementation of the firm's Vendor Relationship Manager (VRM) monitoring and oversight program. VRMs are the officer level business owners responsible for each vendor relationship and have responsibility for ensuring third parties are delivering services in-line with contract provisions and Schwab's policies. As a joint first-line of defense partner, you will offer strategic support to VRMs for our highest risk vendors in their management of vendor oversight requirements, vendor performance and compliance monitoring. The purpose of vendor monitoring is to confirm that vendor performance is acceptable and risk controls are effective. You will play a critical role in managing relatively large or complex relationships, programs and initiatives. This position includes analyzing initiatives, developing and fine-tuning programs, executing program strategies, measuring against performance goals, and fostering relationships with external vendors to drive success. What you have: * Business Oversight: Expected to be a subject matter expert for Third Party provided services. Oversee vendor activities and bridges the relationship between the third party and Schwab. Includes ongoing dialogue and communication with the vendors and Business through regular meetings, emails, telephone calls and formal vendor communications and notifications. * Issue Management: Monitor Vendor relationship in order to mitigate potential risks before they occur and/or address issues as they occur. * Resiliency: Set, assess, and document exit strategies for Critical Vendor business resiliency to support Schwab services in order to manage expectations. Document internal preparedness in order to mitigate impacts during events impacting Third Party service. * Scorecard Performance: Comprehensive representation of vendors' performance against contractual obligations and line of business determined service level agreements (SLAs), provides strategic guidance to cross-functional teams on the creation and communication of the vendor scorecards. * Performance Management: As issues are identified, work with vendor to identify root cause and corrective action plans to avoid a reoccurrence of the issue. Develop and contribute to continuous improvement in vendor governance.
