Align is looking for a talented Senior Machine Learning Scientist to join our team in Morrisville, NC. Align has made a significant investment in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning in the creation of our invisible aligner treatment (Invisalign) and continues to invest and grow globally. Align leverages a variety of machine learning techniques including neural networks, 2D image and 3D geometry processing and classical feature-based approaches to enhance doctors' and patients' experiences. In this role, you will

  • Use machine learning to solve complex, multidisciplinary challenges in applied research and turn technology know-how into execution in a dynamic business environment

  • Develop algorithms and models in collaboration with business partners, product managers, and software engineers to solve key business initiatives

  • Design and implement machine learning techniques to improve treatment planning, customer engagement, and device manufacturing based on historical data

  • Collaborate effectively with other data science teams globally to ensure technology re-use and transfer of new capabilities to drive innovation

  • Quickly learn and assimilate new business processes, ideas and concepts to formulate conclusions and deliver results.

  • Identify features and data needed for machine learning solutions.

  • Help to deliver a vision for our product evolution using machine learning

  • Stay current on the emerging directions in AI-technologies and support the development of the Global AI roadmap

  • Stay current on specific AI-technologies and apply them in an appropriate manner to applicable projects

  • Escalate or delegate issues to appropriate levels based on your experience and span of control

  • Document and transfer technology to product groups across the company

In this role, you'll need

  • Ph.D. in computer science, statistics, machine learning, statistical data modeling or other STEM-related field or equivalent years of experience

  • 8+ years of experience in a rapid prototyping environment such as R, Python or Matlab, or in C / C++

  • 8+ years of machine learning research practice in a corporate environment

  • Proficiency in one or more machine learning frameworks (e.g., Keras, TensorFlow, PyTorch, etc.)

  • A "can do" proactive attitude, high energy, and creativity

  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to multi-task

  • Strong interpersonal, oral, written, and visual communication skills, with ability to present findings concisely and effectively

  • The ability to set your own technical direction within the context of achieving a project-based goal

  • The ability to excel in dynamic, fast-paced environment

Nice to Have:

  • Proven ability to translate insights into business recommendations

  • Strong background in computer vision, geographical image processing, probability theory, or medical applications

Machine Learning Software Engineer Requirements: The ideal candidate will have a thorough understanding of classical and modern machine learning theory and practical experience implementing approaches in * Deep learning and neural networks * Planning and optimization * Inference methods, statistics, and information theory * Graph theory You will be able to solve complex problems through cross-pollination of ideas in highly collaborative environments You have the capability to quickly parse through scientific literature and creatively construct novel approaches Your software development experience includes: * C++ and Python * Test-driven development * Database technologies * Windows and Linux * Version control (e.g. Git) At a minimum we require a Bachelor's, Master's or Ph.D in computer science, engineering, physics or a related field along with 7+ years of relevant experience.
